I find the term worker offensive myself. Not on the same level as slave, of course. I associate worker with someone being forced to work, as in the USSR. But they do always get paid, and can have homes and families, if the state deems it so, at leat.

The intention of the textbook was to belittle it, though, make it sound less serious than it was. It's also telling children hey, it wasn't a big deal. Carson was making an attempt to humanize the people involved. But, maybe you're right maybe he is in denial. I'm trying to find other comments he's made on this subject. I can't but then it, the news feeds are pretty polluted with this.

It's like the guy can't catch a break. Sometimes it too severe, sometimes it's not severe enough. I've seen other articles where he talks about how he doesn't even like to use the word slavery because of it being controversial. Like the guy isn't even allowed to say how hee feels about his heritage, that **** must be hard, man.

Who cares what the dictionary says? The Constitution didn't define slaves as immigrants. The Constitution defined slaves as imports and put a $10 per head federal tax on them. It also said that if they escaped that they had to be returned back to their owners. It excluded immigrants from those legal restraints. Immigrants could become naturalized citizens. Imports (slaves) had no rights and could never become citizens even if they gained their freedom.

 

The greedy elite did use racism to justify racism to the masses to justify cheap labor Black slaves they had, but now the same kind of greedy elite use anti-racism to justify cheap labor illegal Mexicans they hire.

It's all about mega-profits, and not caring who is destroyed in the process.

 

Obviously, Carson's characterization of slaves vs. immigrants was off the mark, but the biggest offense to me was him calling together hundreds of HUD employees to sit there and listen to his "great philosopher" crap when he should have been talking about, oh I don't know, housing and urban development?

Do your job, dude. A cabinet level position isn't given to you so you have an audience for your stupid historical lectures.

 

White Catholics were victimized too, like in the Nativist riots where there was a basic Pogrom attacks on White Catholics.

But, the poverty rate of the major White Catholic groups like Italian Americans, Irish Americans, and Polish Americans all are at about 7%.

 

Do you have a link? And if Obama did refer to slaves as immigrants he was as much of a dummy as Carson is. If Obama had said such a thing and if I had been in a position to discuss it as we are doing now I would have called him a dummy for his asinine comments. As I said before, Obama doesn't have anything in common with American blacks whose ancestors were kidnapped slaves held in lifelong bondage. He's on the same scale as Ted Cruz in being a real American or any other anchor baby.

The Constitution didn't refer to slaves as immigrants but as taxable imports and that's all you, or anyone else, need to know.
