Comey Fired After Asking For Money to Investigate Trump

Comey met last week with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, after the Senate Intelligence Committee had asked the FBI director to accelerate the bureau’s investigation. Rosenstein wrote a memo that provided Trump’s reasoning for firing Comey on Tuesday night, titled “Restoring Public Confidence in the FBI.”

Rosenstein wrote that he had recommended Comey be fired because the director “made serious mistakes” in how he handled Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s private emails.

Sarah Isgur Flores, the Justice Department’s top spokeswoman, told HuffPost that the reports regarding Comey asking for more money were “totally false.”

Trump did not offer an explanation for Comey’s sudden dismissal, telling reporters on Wednesday that he’d fired the director simply “because he was not doing a good job.”

Funny all this time I thought he was fired because of Rosenstein's recommendation...

 

We all know Comey was fired because he wasn't dropping the investigation into Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.

I believe they think Hucklbee's porky daughter will be given less flak while peddling lies than Baghdad Bob Spicer would.

 

I was wondering, how is it that one would know that an anonymous source did or did not work at the DOJ or FBI? If they are anonymous how do you know anything about them?

 

I know you would really really want one, but besides that can you explain the need? It sure isn't obvious. Special Prosecutors are usually appointed when there is some prima facie evidence of a crime somewhere; Got any ideas of any???

 

Another problem is that this simply isn't how the FBI budget works, as the interim head testified to Congress. First of all, these are not "pay as you go" line item investigations. There is no separate budget for each investigation where if the money runs short the investigations grinds to a halt. Secondly, if the FBI wants more money, they would ask Congress for it, not the President.

Typical fake news from HuffPo, either they are completely ignorant or they are trusting that their readers are, or these headlines are simply clickbait.

Maybe you missed the part where Trump asked repeatedly if he was under investigation.

One of those questions came during a dinner that was essentially Comey's job interview.

Ummm...I'm sure that means nothing to Trumpers.

Trump famously said he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and his supporters wouldn't care.

It's total horseshit. The Deputy Director testified, under oath, that he knows of no factual basis for the story, it's not how they do things, and that they have all the money then need to handle anything they are investigating. And the NYT won't confirm that that their "sources" are with either the DOJ or FBI!

According to the congressional officials, the Senate Intelligence Committee learned of Mr. Comey’s request on Monday when Senators Burr and Warner asked the F.B.I. director to meet with them. They wanted him to accelerate the bureau’s investigation so they could press forward with theirs. Congressional investigators do not have the authority to collect intelligence that agencies like the F.B.I. and the C.I.A. possess.

Mr. Rosenstein is the most senior law enforcement official supervising the Russia investigation. Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself because of his close ties to the Trump campaign and his undisclosed meetings with Russia’s ambassador to the United States.

No, apparently Comey asked for prosecutors. Makes more sense, now that McCabe said they were adequately resourced for the investigation. Looks like they are ready to move past the investigation phase.
