Actually it isn't as hard as it sounds. We buy the egg roll wraps ready made and use any left over as wontons. I also make my own won ton soup. I love Chinese food too. I used to eat out and then try to replicate the food at home. The five spice powder threw me for a long time. I haven't made goldfish soup yet...but one day.

Before I saw the Cuban pork recipe earlier, I had already bought a 5 lb beef roast cut to put into the oven.

I roasted it today and it came out really good.

For 1/2 hour I broiled it to darken the outside.

Then for 2 more hours I baked it at 350F covered in foil. That kept it really moist.

Now it is perfect and very tender.

Had a warm fresh roast beef sandwich for dinner which was succulent.

There is enough meat left for warm ups, soups, and cold cuts for the rest of the weekend at least.

Then I'll try the Cuban pork recipe.

We have a dim sum place across town on the other side of the valley.

I go there when I need a dim sum fix.

    Whoah, someone recognizes me.

I've been around other corners of the net, and also busy. Combination of those two things, really.

College has been picking up a bit since I started, so that's really the first thing.

    How about you?

Well I am one of @Smartmouthwoman 's dear friends and have seen her on several forums. Followed her here many moons ago. Love sharing cooking recipes with her (not to be confused with bomb making recipes like McVeigh had).

    Good to be back.

So, today I got some REALLY good news:

The principal my school has suffered from for the whole year is being transferred out - and the District Office has given us someone for next year who we KNOW is pretty darn good. Apparently the reviews the staff gave the DO were so bad that they had to move her elsewhere. And honestly, our current principal was awful. I've never had someone as bad as this completely incompetent idiot.

I'm genuinely curious what the morale is going to be like on Monday. Probably sky-high. I myself am likely to walk in wearing a party hat, throwing confetti, and playing "Blue Skies" on my boombox.

I actually waited 5 years before I married my second. Was in a custody dispute with the first. Which I won that 5th year. Then we got married. Put in another 12 years. Then the last 5 we started living separate lives. She worked days and I went to nights. So that lil bit about absence makes the heart grow fonder. [IMG]

Bet she is posting on her FB right now, "Thank God they finally approved my transfer. The staff at my current school is horrible--completely incompetent. Bring on the confetti!!"

Obvioulsy you never encountered a Bette Davis or Tallulah Bankhead.
That was their drink of choice. When Jayne Mansfield died in that
horrible car crash { was decapitated.} there was a big quart of Bourbon
found in the car { back seat }.
Greta Garbo religiously had her daily shot of scotch.
Joan Crawford became depressed when she figured she
was no longer needed in Hollywood. She refused to admit she
was old.She drank herself silly with Vodka.
In the Movie - Whatever Happened to Baby Jane -
Bette Davis order a case of booze from the liquor store about
    monthly.Some Rye,Bourbon and Gin.
She was Loosey Goosey.Somewhat like this Pop Stands hostess.
    Very Casual,that be it.

Well, there's enough people who check out what she says elsewhere that it wouldn't remain a secret for long if she did. And she's said some pretty nasty stuff this year about nearly everyone. HR will look for a way to give her the boot if she does - teachers have some union protection, but admins have none in that regard.

I know I run the risk of people thinking I'm exaggerating when I talk like this as I have said on another thread or two elsewhere that this lady was the worst principal I've ever worked with. But my God, she pissed off the entire PE department with her petty sniping, ruined half the electives with insane rules, yelled at a teacher in front of her own kids - although when she kept sniping for no good reason with one of our teachers who - well, you know how there's always one person in a big enough place that everyone loves? The person who's the heart and soul of the place? When our principal decided to wage war against her fo no good reason at all, that was that. And right now every teacher is calling everyone else sharing the good news. I've gotten a few phone calls myself with "Did you hear?"

The woman was a nepotism hire - she's only in because her husband is sort of a big deal in the District Office. I actually worked with him when he was a VP and I was in my third year as a teacher. But she couldn't get promoted as an admin within our district, so she went to one nearby district to get hired as an admin, was apparently asked to leave there, went to another district and was on perpetual admin alert for pissing off half her staff wherever she went - the only reason she was hired back here was because our former head of HR who did NOT want her in was fired and one of her husbands friends took her place and she was rehired here.

Look, even the best of principals has some flaw or weakness - and the last three principals I've worked with were outstanding to work for. Our last one in particular was that rarest of leaders, one with a true vision. But even they had some weakness. Thing is, they more than overcame them. This one had NO discernible strengths that I could see, and the whole district knew it.

In our school system principals all get three year contracts. You cannot get rid of one you don't like without buying them out.

Some of the nearby districts have that or something similar; ours doesn't - but they transferred her to a school that, well - let's just say she may not last the year. Some of the talk yesterday when the news broke is that she just might quit before her new posting, or halfway thru the next school year, or that the DO is trying to make her quit so that they don't have to fire her. By now they know they made a mistake hiring her; many of us knew her reputation before she started here and it seems the only ones who didn't know were HR.

Are you in education? What do you do, if I may ask?

Good morning and welcome to a beautiful Saturday.
Geesh, the bad boss story makes me want bourbon for breakfast! Some may remember my nemesis, SB. (Silly boss or stupid biotch, depending on the day) She was a real headcase... nice as pie one day, cutting you to the bone the next. She finally fired me for standing up to her. First and only time I was ever fired. She cried thru the meeting with me and HR while I didnt shed a tear. She retired not long after but tried to keep her place in local society. Everytime I saw her pic in the paper, Id have flashbacks of what a miserable manager she was. Arent we glad such toxic people are the exception and not the norm?

They sound great! I had no idea it took all that work.
A few years back I bought those egg roll wraps and just shredded some cabbage, carrots, celery and onion and put some soy sauce over it and stuffed the wraps and fried them. They tasted pretty good but I had a problem with the cabbage wanting to open the wrap in the oil. Some of them didn't work out. lol That was the first and last time I made them.

    True story.
I use to love Chinese food. When I was young and in my first apartment I lived within walking distance to a great little Chinese place. Chicken Almond Ding with mixed vegetables and spring rolls. One day I go and there is a notice on the door and the place is close. Went next door to ask and the board of health shut them down for having domestic animals in the cooler. Im sure I ate cat or dog and while it tasted excellent, the thought of me eating Lucky or Happy repulsed me to the point I swore to Jesus in Heaven I would never ever eat anything Chinese that I couldn't distinguish what it was. Over the years, I just stopped eating it.

Second story that's related in some way. lol
I worked with this guy who I gave a ride home to one day. He's in the car talking about how his dog was lost for a few days. So I said, you got any Chinese food places near by? He said, yeah. I said, Id go check around the place looking for the dogs collar. You know I ate at a place they closed down for having dogs in the cooler. He went insane. lol Totally insane. Im laughing thinking about it. Dog finally came home and we laughed about it, but he went insane over it.
