Yep, liberal disdain for the constitution leads to judicial supremacy.

Sure, but why bother if we're gonna be so nonchalant about the whole thing. If your argument is that they'll find some way to squeeze a "right to healthcare" out of the Constitution regardless of what the document says or is about, why the hell do we even care about what it says?

I'm fine with this brotha, I don't worship the Constitution, but this whole charade of following the Constitution needs to end one way or another. Either we drop the whole thing, or we start using the amendment process instead of squeezing out meaning that just isn't there without serious deformation.

I understand why our judges don't interpret the Constitution properly, and that's because our entire political system would collapse if they did. That's fine, but either we need to fix it or get rid of it.

So the government has a right to forcibly take money from me to pay for someone else's lung cancer treatments after they smoked for 50 years.

The constitution is highlly overated....jus ax george bush...remember what he said about the constitution? ....."Just a g.d. piece of paper" hehheh

Irregardless...the fact remains the Supreme Court is the ultimate authority....look how Obama was so easily able to get around the constitutional requirements for the presidency....all that was needed was for the Supreme Court to ignore the constitution ...which they did...claiming it was a political problem regarding whether or not obama met the constitutional requirements to be a natural born citizen.

I don't think it's overrated, just poorly understood, and certainly not perfect.

Nothing nonchalant or being squeezed about it. We have a SCOTUS because we can't change the constitution every week. A modern society requires a judicial group to interpret the constitution for modern times. We call that SCOTUS

Personal responsibility is not just diminished, it's utterly meaningless at this point.

Yes, via the 16th amendment. Just like the government forcibly takes money from me, to pay for welfare for mega corporations.

The government can do anything it chooses to do. In the olden days they used to believe any illness was a result of sin.....now many believe it is because the sick person was lax in taking care of himself when the truth of the matter is...no one really knows what causes most illness including cancer. Just theories...as in you will find people who have lived ripe old ages but smoked every day.

The point was to initiate a discussion on health care in general.

    Actually, we can.

And right, I'd agree that Amendments should be easier to pass, perhaps ignoring the Senate entirely.

Okay, but think about what you're saying a little more carefully. We have a SCOTUS because we can't change the constitution every week. In other words, the Constitution as written is not fitting to be applied in modern times.

How do they go about making these changes without literally changing the wording? By squeezing out whatever meaning they think is necessary to "fit modern times." Why are you so reluctant to admit this?

So you say nothing is a natural right, merely a declared right? To be denied at the whim of the government?

You do realize that the constitution, including the ninth amendment allowed slavery, considered it a right for those who could afford it, right?

I just want this country to be what it was intended to be. I don't want it to take a 90 degree turn to the left.

"The government can do anything it chooses to do."

That is, by far, the scariest quote I've seen here since I joined in 2015.

You seem to conflate reality with liberal logic. In some cases they are total opposites.

It is and always has been....the problem now is that people under the guise of their political agenda, aversion to taxes and personal greed want everyone to believe that poor people should be forced to pay for their own health care....which in truth means...they would get no health care.

Not even to mention as has been mentioned .....they do not grasp the simple fact that health care is a matter of National Security...nor do they seem to grasp the fact that sick people pose a threat to everyone ...especially in this age of super bugs, and the potential for biological warfare....let me just give one example ...suppose some newly emerged and highly contagious virus gets loose amongst a small group of poor people....who have no access to health care....the authorities suddenly realize that these people are a huge threat...what would they do...tell the people they must pay to cure themselves?...or would the government rush in and do everything humanly possible to stop this epidemic immediately irregardless of costs and who did have or did not have health insurance.

Try and use some common sense folks! It cannot be denied health care is a national security issue.
