The fools in Congress have pushed Donald Trump into destroying his presidency and together with it the American people and the world by starting a fully fledged economic war against Russia. There is no way that agreements can ever be reached between the US and Russia now, and when dialogues stop, the bombs start. Thank you congress... another brilliant move.

With a senate like this, how long can the US survive.

“It is a declaration of a full-fledged economic war on Russia,” Medvedev wrote in a lengthy strong-worded Facebook post in both English and Russian. “Unless a miracle happens,” the law will affect US-Russian relations for decades, Medvedev wrote.

State Senator Black said: “It is Congress that is starting a trade war, not the president. The president opposes the trade war, and yet he is forced into one,”

“At the heart of this whole thing is the desire to stop the Nord Stream 2 gas project... to benefit American manufacturers,” of American Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Black told RT.

The Russian foreign ministry has meanwhile said that by signing the bill, Washington has embarked on a “dangerous policy, fraught with the erosion of [global] stability, for which Moscow and Washington bear a special responsibility.”

Maintaining that Moscow “reserves the right to other countermeasures,” apart from the expulsion of US diplomats, the ministry made clear that Russia will always follow its national interests despite any economic pressure.

What a wasted opportunity to cooperate better with Russia.

Our leadership needs to learn to respect the legitimate political and economic interests of other countries.

I'm against sanctions on Russia. Just as I'm against NATO being on Russia's border. I'm was against getting involved in the conflict between Russia, and Ukraine.
But, you're fooling yourself if Russia is any condition to wage any form of economic warfare. If oil was over $115 a barrel, then you might be right. But, that's not the case.

Putin is dangerous, the further he's backed into a corner, the more dangerous this situation will become. This is a legit fear, Russia waging economic warfare against the US isn't.

elections have consequences, including those that put strongmen in power. I suggest Russians remember that when they go to the polls, if they ever have another real chance....

We don't need more opportunities to bend down to Putin. We've done plenty of that of late. I don't want to cooperate with Putin and neither do most Americans. He's not our bud. Wake up Merwen.

Theoretically they could absolutely cripple Western Europe, particularly Germany, if they suddenly cut off all LNG exports. They would eventually find substitutes, but in the mean time they'd be in some serious ****.

I am opposed to sanctions. There is no credible prospect of them toppling Putin, so they'll just hurt the American and Russian poor who need trade to survive.

How exactly have we bowed down to Putin?
Last time I checked, it was his economy that's sunk, not ours?
Why do you want conflict with the Russians?

You have a point, but don't you think the US is waiting in the wings, and Putin knows that?

When the Berlin Wall fell NATO promised not to contain and surround Russia. That's turned to ****. If Russia were forming centralised regional governments close to the US I'm sure you'd be a little peeved too.

The Ukraine was a conflict with no right side. The Europeans want to deny Russia a warm water port in Crimea for purely strategic reasons. They precipitated a violent pro-EU coup in Kiev to that end. Russia wants a warm water port. So they annexed Crimea.

What never gets discussed is what the people of Crimea want. Both sides of the conflict are scheming and in it for strategic reasons, but even the most biased Western outlets don't suppose that there's less than 80% support in Crimea for the annexation.

I only support sanctions when there's some prospect of success. Otherwise they're just vindictive and hurt both sides, and make total war more likely.

    You're preaching to the choir.
Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has encroached on Russia. These sanctions only make matters worse in my opinion.
There's a McCarthyism like hysteria that's griped a vocal minority in my own country. What's most infuriating, is this faux russiaphobe mob is doing this for some type of political advantage domestically, and are completely apathetic, or oblivious to the fact that there's real international consequences.

The Worst Congress in history, and the behavior of many Americans condoning and enabling their behavior, is not a consequence. But a punishment on other Americans(and unwittingly themselves). As relations worsen, and they will, escalation will turn the cold war hot. At which point you won't be chirping, but regretting your part in it.

Why would any nation want to back another nation into a corner? Do you consider that normal? I consider it the actions of psychopaths.

I have news for you, Vladimir Putin will do what is best for his people and fatherland, and he is not going to allow anyone to steal an ounce of Russia's wealth... so Soros and the one world order freaks controlling Washington and the media, can screw themselves.

What is pathetic is they're screwing the American people too.

Even if I ignored the stupidity of the escalations of this retarded bill, the domestic damage is devastating in its declaration of war against the President. Which either the President doesn't know, or doesn't want to fight. This is beyond "lame duck status". This is Congress saying "We can and will do whatever we want, whether we're bound constitutionally or not."

    It's now a renegade agency.

Congress is asserting itself because the executive has been bought and paid for. Quid pro Quo. Really, you have to wake up.

If I was Putin, I'd do what's best for Russia. I don't hold that against him. But, let's not kid ourselves, Russia is not able to wage any form of economic warfare against the US. If Oil was above $115 bucks a barrel, I think the sistuation might be different.

Like I said, I hold not ill will against the Russians, which aren't saints, but niether are we. But, in this case, we're the aggressors.

Are you mad because Putin is a Christian, or because he wouldn't allow gay parades? But that's what the Russian people wanted, and isn't the president of a country supposed to do what the people want?

Trump will be taking parts of the Senate's stupidity to the Supreme Court, since it limits the president's power to negotiate with other nations.
