IMO, some people are here JUST to be incivil. That is their thrill in life, & they can find an expression in an online forum.

If they interacted with people in the real world like they do here, they would get beat up too often..

It is too bad, in a way, but it is a fact of internet forums, & goes with the territory. It is hard to keep it topical, when hecklers & saboteurs are doing their best to disrupt.

It is a tragic commentary on our culture.. that so many people live lives of angry hostility, & lash out at their perceived 'enemies!' with jihadist zeal. It is not rational. It is not polite or good manners. And it is an unhappy sign of the times, & the decline of western civilization.

I certainly join you in that regard. But note that the anti-minority and anti-immigrant sentiments are far more hostile and more evident in this forum. Too bad these hate filled radical far right extremists who spew such hate won't see the light.

Usually I do not feel offended by personal attacks - I do report them because I believe the board should be a moderated board - but they do not offend. An insult is like wine it only affects if accepted

I am FAR more offended by attitudes such as the one I hit the other day where a member stated that a woman "would be safe from rape" because of her appearance.

Now I was less offended in relation to the insult than I was in relation to the attitude behind the insult.

 

Well the poster I responded to was talking about his or her self. If you want to get into terrorists and cop killers from both sides of the spectrum, start a thread. Would love to talk about California's dream of secession when Trump won

I dislike the "Librul" epithets that get bandied around because it makes political divide not about the issues but about an, often imaginary, group of people.

It makes political decisions not about "which person would be best for my country?" But "I am voting THIS way because I dont like THEM"

 

And some because they want to feel better than others by putting others down. Example is the endless memes on "librul logic 101"

 

That's the pit we have allowed to grow, through our tying ourself down to 2 parties.

I agree with you that just sticking to issues is not easy around here.

As far as the blatant racism, I have seen it here too. I usually just ignore it because I am not going to get a rational discussion out of a blatant racist. So why waste my time?

I'll always give you a respectful debate if you'd like one.

 

It's the nature of the internet, been that way from the beginning. I even see it on facebook between relatives who would never make those insults or name calling in person. The immature coward also use the webs anonymity to insult and agitate for no other reason but to get their kicks.

 

Like the memes you post all the time make you feel better or how like dissing Melania and Donald Trump's daughter makes you feel better about being ugly?

 

This place is not for "respectful debate" obviously. This place is for "I'm right, you're wrong" childishness and nothing more than that, so don't fool yourself into thinking these types of forums serve any other purpose than that.
