I do agree the US Founders got it right at the beginning. No other nation on Earth was more free, and is more free.

    Irrelevant.

You will never be able to acquire natural resources, transport and process them, meet needs of a changing population, account for natural "unknowns" such as disaster and broken equipment and politics and war.

You seems to think that a person will just have to push a button and get whatever they want. That's going to result in a lot of fat people sitting in couches.

    Paladin,

Coming from the viewpoint of Freedom, Justice, Equality and Independence, which is the basis of all creation since it began trillions of years ago, I am diametrically opposed to a one world government as well as government in general. The reasoning or logic behind my view has to do with the Will of the individual. All Men strive to be free from domination and restrictions of others naturally. The reasoning is an innate drive to be able to grow without restriction other than those that you place upon yourself in the arena of human interaction. This is why when I read comments about Islam, this and Islam that, I laugh because most people do not know what it is to be a Muslim at all, but I have digressed a tad-bit. The fundamentals of a physical one world government are against everything that is natural and conducive to existence/Creation. In the Taurat there is the example or prophecy of the Tower of Bab-El, in this story there was a king who proclaimed and professed that all people join unto one rule in one society which eventually was destroyed because “We came down and confounded the language.” Some take this as the origin of different language which is incorrect. Confounding the language has to do with people not being able to relate to each other beyond the superficial. This is taking place now in these United States and worldwide. People naturally gravitate towards like and kind because it is natural, look at the rest of Creation. You can take a hand full of seeds and scatter them about and different types of birds will come and eat of the seeds, yet they will return to their own kind. The reasoning that there are divisions between the peoples of this society is due to this very fact. If a person wants everyone to live under one roof, have one ideology, one belief systems, this will never work and will eventually lead to anger, hostility, and conflict. This also robs people of the ability to express their own ideas and construct entities with like-minded persons. This is part of the problem within this country, you have different people looking to one group for sustainability and in turn, this interferes with other people’s ability to obtain sustainability. The best solution is for all of the different groups to work within themselves to provide for themselves, and peace will reign supreme. Also, in people doing for themselves as a group, it demonstrates to them their natural abilities, which is what men do. Females rely on men or others for sustenance because it is their nature. Men are the providers because it is our nature, and one world government interferes with this natural process and order.

Do you mean to say the future is irrelevant? If so do you feel the same about the past?

You seem to think you know what i think. I will give you this. We already have many folks of all shapes and sizes, sitting, standing, walking even driving and pushing buttons to get much of what they want.

The future is not irrelevant, your claim that in a couple 100 years there will be unlimited resources is ridiculous.

So you harness the energy of the sun, who is going to build and maintain that equipment, how are you going to route the energy to where it is needed, how are you going to handle the inevitable breakdowns and failures? And energy itself does not grow food or mine metal or build homes or treat sick and injured people. And people move, populations shift, which means transportation and storage and routing changes.

There will always be misallocation of resources, there will always be a cost associated with resources (including peoples labor), peoples demands for various items will vary, and there will always be some form of money to account for the different values of different types of resources.

I do not claim to know the future or that anything is unlimited. Only to present a possibility of how our civilization might come together.
I do believe energy or lack of will be the key.

Every civilization, every technological advance has had and will have its challenges. I understand your it will never work cynicism. All valid questions that will need to be answered. If we are to advance they will be. If they are not answered ... you can always brush up your survival skills

Its not cynicism or "it will never work", its reality. There has always been and always will be issues with resources and value. And I have not even mentioned corruption, politics, and fraud.

Yes--there will always be valid questions to be answered, which is why we need people in political charge that know more then how to make people feel good by hiding issues.

    I answered.....

I would prefer authority be more localized.

Here in Canada the local Municipal level governments
are often more responsive to issues facing residents than
M.L.A's and M. P's, (although of course there are some notable
    exceptions to this general rule).

I am especially impressed with local governments that get involved in
replicas of the Worgl, Austria local money experiment that worked so well
    during the Great Depression.

So I prefer local government to our federal for getting things done that effect me on a daily basis. The federal government is needed for things that impact the whole country and that works for me as well. Is there a reason why a global government could not work the same way? Ideally a system of local -> National -> then global, each responsible for their areas? Especially if representation to the global bureaucracy was through democratic methods.

Assuming that the specifics of the one world government are irrelevant to the poll, I voted for one centralized authority. Of course, such an authority would only be favorable if it had an ideology near identical to my own.

Though I voted for a world government, I also understand this is an impossibility in the current atmosphere and civilization. Until religion and economic disparity are removed humankind cannot reach consensus regardless of obvious need and self preservation. Here in the United States we have an excellent microcosm for this problem right in front of us....due to the disparity of both mentality and means we have allowed corporate influences to literally gain control of our government to the point that the actual citizenry is ignored for profit. This would become incorporated into whatever is created....we are not mature enough to do this yet.

In general, how do you feel about global government?

With the economies of the world's nations becoming increasingly "connected" into one functional system that no single nation has (or should have) the power to control, coupled with the growing negative impacts attributed to global warming, some form of global government would appear to be the only possible solution. In both of these cases, individual nations lack the power or influence to take effective control, leaving people everywhere victimized by events. The very thought of a global government sends shock waves of fear and loathing through the populations of every nation state, but government isn't inherently "bad." Governments reflect the intent and energy put into them by those who participate in them. Results depend on those you empower to rule. Select wisely and great things are possible. Choose poorly and you enable widespread human misery. Fortunately or unfortunately, the world is at the point where this choice is necessary. Some form of world government is needed in conjunction with existing nation states. Some form of balance of power must be determined, for the global economy and global warming both demand more effective & efficient forms of control.

Our founders got to write our Constitution. Who would be writing a world constitution? Do you think that somehow, the entire world can be persuaded to adopt a specifically Western concept of government and liberties?

What do you think a world constitution, written by the world, would be like?

I agree with you in general. The challenges of creating a world constitution protecting western human rights values defies imagination. Yet, we are approaching a point in HUMAN history that we'll be forced to face that exact challenge.

    No.

To get your world government, it will have to be an empire, and a particularly brutal one at that. Now some people may think that's a fair trade, but I don't want to live that way.
