The "so what" is that the world doesn't need Russian titanium--or trace metals. Tell your strutting KBG thug leader to stop invading other countries.

U.S. allies like Canada and Australia have lots of these strategic materials. America doesn't need Russian raw materials.

You and the forum pro-Russian trolls are trying to spread fear with your phony claims.

Chineses have been ignoring Western intellectual property for quite long time already. And they lose nothing. It's just that the Russians will be the first who will do it at the legislative level.

It's not just the titanium; it's titanium parts. Now, how much of a problem this would be remains to be seen, but it's more than just the metal itself.
    ------------------------------------

As of last year, 40 percent of Russian titanium aircraft parts were sold to Boeing and 60 percent to its European rival Airbus, according to a spokesman for Russia’s Rostec corporation.

“We have a joint venture with American Boeing. It is located in the Urals, in Verkhnyaya Salda, where products are manufactured using absolutely unique technologies. We supply not titanium, but finished titanium parts. And the know-how belongs to the Russian side, Viktor Kladov told Rossiyskaya Gazeta at the time.

So, do russian people manufacture what they consume? Provide all of their services? If not, who do they depend on for their consumer needed resources?

They produce very little - mostly food. If you were to go to Russia and look around you’d see that pretty much everything is imported - clothing, electronics, sometimes even meat. Software is imported or stolen, cells phones are imported.
If you fly into Russia, you’ll probably fly in on a Boeing, that’s the main aircraft Aeroflot uses. You will see some Russian made cars on the streets, but there are a lot of imports.
So, yeah, Russia produces almost nothing but raw materials and weapons.

Then there is your way forward for russia. Produce, using their own people, what they consume. This worked out great for america for a very long time.

The US is announcing more sanctions on Russia tomorrow. Russia has to respond in some way, even if the new sanctions don't hurt them. Not responding only invites more of the same.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Russia doesn't end the US manned space program tomorrow by announcing no more rides to the ISS.

Well, each ride is millions of dollars. Many contracts are already signed.
If Russia stops giving rides SpaceX will step in and accelerate its human-proofing of space capsules and NASA will accelerate the review and licensing.
If Russia cancels astronaut ride contracts I’m pretty sure NASA astronauts will get new rides within 6-9 months.

SpaceX has no expertise in manned space travel. NASA lost 2 shuttles with all aboard.

6 to 9 months? You sure about that?

They are in process of licensing that capsule now. It’s the same capsule that was used many times by SpaceX to send supplies to ISS. I believe the goal now is to make the capsule human ready within a year. If Russia stops giving rides that process can be sped up.

Then it's inevitable anyhow, so no big deal?

Who is gonna be the first to take that ride?

What about the fact that the manned program is already behind schedule with no firm dates set?

I think they should as well, that would force the new Falcon from SpaceX into service and retire the Soyuz before it kills someone. I have wondered for some time why the U.S. pays Russia for things we can do ourselves.

Responding or not, US will not stop the sanctions, they will continue to 'refine' them.

Russia is in deep trouble, they cannot ditch the west, not in 50 years. They cannot manage the situation and will get worse. They will seek revenge, and will forever think of ways to fuc you back. When they have been cornered and have nothing to lose, they will go to war. Its natural. Human.

I fear the war but I am somehow prepared.

Make no mistake, this is on you. Your making.

It really is not a big deal if Russians stop providing rides.
As for manned program - SpaceX and NASA develop two vehicles that will be capable of taking humans into deep space. The US is the only country that actually works towards getting humans beyond LEO. Russians just talk and don’t do anything because it’s pricey. Europeans are more likely to just opt to participate in NASA program and Chinese are still in development of LEO space station of their own. There is nothing left to do for manned flights in LEO. They are at a point where they test sperm behavior in orbit.
Another thing - ISS has an expiration date at the end of 2020s - why invest billions of dollars into a vehicle that NASA won’t even need in 10 years? SpaceX plans to do tourist flights, so it makes sense for them but not for NASA. And SpaceXs first client is NASA and it’s astronauts. I am a big follower of space exploration and I can tell you that 2019 is going to be the year when a private company takes humans into space, into ISS.
    So, how are we behind?

I don't see anything that indicates the Falcon is ready. It was supposed to have been ready, but newer reports show that's not the case.

Just a reminder ... The Soyuz hasn't killed anyone, but the Space Shuttles sure did.

Not sure who "you" is, but I'm an American.

I basically agree with you, though. Our new Secretary of State state has said we will not let Russia succeed on any front. That leaves the Russians with not many options.

IMO, we have abandoned diplomacy altogether and are now in a full court press against Russia. It can't turn out well for anyone.

And I wanted to remind you that many Russian resupply missions to ISS blew up. At least one blows up each year. It’s a matter of time when one blows up with humans on board.

"Will be" and "is going to be". I remember when it was said we would all be driving flying cars by now.

Nothing happens overnight. SpaceX was created without history of flights. In a few years their first rocket flew. They promised to start working on resupplying ISS and in a few years they started to do so. They promised to start giving rides to NASA astronauts to ISS and they are pretty much at licensing stage now.
They also develop heavy lift rockets with their eye on a moon and Mars and I have no doubt that they’ll deliver because the kept their past promises.
