Scouting is NOT about "camping, use of national parks, hunting and fishing etc."

It is (or more specifically WAS) about leadership, citizenship, and successful integration into adult society. Most all of those ideals are an affront to leftism. The wholly leftist United Way holds the purse strings for a great percentage of BSA's funding and the pressure to knuckle under has been constant, worse since BSA v Dale.

They're done. There's no coming back. Leftism has ruined yet another facet of this previously great country.

I returned my Eagle medal in 2013. I only wish I'd clipped off the right wing of that bird.

Frankly, I was in two troops of scouts and do not recall any of the boys saying "I am a Jew." So I simply do not know. I hope Jews were and are boy scouts since I support the boys in scouting so much.

Sorry to learn you returned the medal but you earned Eagle Scout and that is a difficult job to accomplish. Each merit badge takes lots of work to earn and Eagles win so many of them I forgot how many. Many scouts earn a couple of those merit badges. But with or without it with you, you earned the level of scouts at the peak of scouts.

Though as scouts we would camp out at Diamond O Scouts camp, and Los Moches which was local to us, easier to get to , you are right that camping is not the sole mission and that scouts learn so many good things that it is not wise for the left to deny this and shed bad light on the scouts.

 

We are not seeing a great institution of boys improved by the left, we are seeing this fine or once much finer institution being destroyed. I hope there still is good in the Boy Scouts or now simply the Scouts. Doing it your way, there may be a huge boost to the abortion industry or perhaps more young girls will bear children. A thing I prefer not to even mention.

 

Not picking on you here, but you said your class was not cooking related then explained the class mix of men to women. I am not clear that means a thing in the actual cooking courses.

And it seems you make excuses for the women. Why do you do that?

I just do not recall at any point any of my hundreds of male acquaintances over many years wanting women held back. I hear people like you speak of it, but in real life, I simply do not run across this.

We have a local feature on PBS called Check Please. The host is a woman. She has the public on her show, 3 guests at a time whom eat at the SF Bay Area restaurants and all 3 evaluate the food and service, etc. They often show the chefs. Women do own such restaurants and do get high marks. So far none said they learned cooking in the scouts.

I have had two wives. Wife one hated camping out. Wife 2 loved camping out. The two were very different women.

Wife 2 and I married with her having 6 children. I was husband three. Men, before you think those kids were a burden, first the wife? She was extremely beautiful and fun to talk to. She has her problems but not in the looks or personality section. We had one daughter. Actually my wife was in a hurry to have our child. I would have preferred to wait longer. Anyway, the boys all turned out like boys and the girls all turned out like girls. And men know what I mean. The girls all very much liked camping out. I having been a scout was very good at camping out. And as to cooking for the family, any of them would pitch in and help.

Derek: Derek owns a business that services your car where it is parked. Not rich but making a living.
Brian: Contractor who does more than remodels and repairs, he builds large custom homes and sells them to those with mucho money. Brian is 42 and already worth a few million dollars. I mean he has plenty of cash. And lives in a very large home he built.
Dallas: Dallas is a bit younger than Brian and works at a top end restaurant. He and I have not seen each other for at least 10 years. But he does fine and also in free time rebuilds homes that he also sells.
Taharaa: School principle with a Masters degree and very respected as an educator.
Rachel: She cleans homes of the fairly wealthy to the wealthy. She loves this kind of work and picked this up due to her now deceased mother. I have no clue of her net worth but she has a net worth of happiness. Her husband owns a business that installs your radio and sound systems in cars. He, i am told stays very busy doing such work.
Jonah, he completes the family I married. Jonah works for Brian and also is now building a home which he will live in and later sell for a profit. Brian has mentored him quite well.

Virginia ... my fabulous daughter. She is in the middle of becoming an RN. She exploded into high school as a top student and graduated speaking Spanish and French. She then planned to teach. She gave birth to a premie son and it persuaded her along with Brians nurse wife to work as a Nurse. She recently contracted to buy a condominium. She is 32. She divorced the father of her son. She is now engaged to a man I met who seems to me to be a fine person and teaches school. And he is a very very good chef. So good he chefs at a top end restaurant.

As to camping out, I always took Virginia with her brother Jonah since since both love the outdoors. They all are very skilled surfers and love the ocean. All swim like fish.

I think they are all excellent citizens.

 

Some education proponents claim that "inclusive" schools are best, that handicapped children and gifted children and advanced children and unprepared children should all be in the same class. It puts the emphasis on social skills and not education. And its crap. It almost always results in the teacher teaching to the least common denominator, the teacher spends his time with the problematic and slow and falling behind kids while the rest of the class is ignored (they don't say they are ignored, they call it self study, but its basically just keeping those kids busy so the teacher can deal with the lower rung).

Boys are not girls. They are not equal, and anyone who has spent time with a group of children knows this. That's the major flaw in your argument.

 

From earliest Egypt and Babylon to modern societies all over the world, boys and girls are different. Haven't you heard of evolution?

 

Why is this so unfortunate? The Boy Scouts have shifted their core values in recent years; the Mormons are not comfortable with this shift so are organizing a new foundation that will continue to reflect their own values.

Where’s the problem? I thought we lived in a nation that values an individual’s abilities to have choices.

I mean, am I wrong? Are there people here who’d prefer to eliminate choices for US citizens? What if I want to enroll my child in an secular scout group?

 

They still have the girl scouts.

Girl scouts is for girls.

Boy scouts is for anything besides biological boys.

What a load of crap. This is not about cooking. Males and females think and see things differently. It is wired into our DNA. Why do you think males are more aggressive, more likely to commit violence, murder, mass murder, suicide, etc? I raised 3 boys and 2 girls and am horrified by your "they are the same" "new school". thinking of yours.
