That ignorance is at least partially based on not socializing equally with girls when you were young. Being a scout in a coed environment would have opened your mind.

 

That event I never went to. It was always thousands of miles from me. I believe my grandson did go. I will ask him when I talk to him soon. I don't call him much given he is a serious student in a major university and takes some solid courses.

I have a step daughter who is a school principal. She is all girl. I know girls and boys. I have a sister now retired who taught school. I know girls.

Right. When you spend your life as a female and work in an all girls school with an all female faculty and administration for 6 years, tell me all about how much you understand women.

 

Are you being funny? You don't think males are needy? Why do you think they commit so many more crimes and lash out at women so much? Because they are needy. They express their neediness in a different way, a more violent way, because of testosterone and because of cultural conditioning; but the bottom line is that men are just as needy as women.

Girls are most certainly far different from boys. If they weren't we'd all be gay.

Women only say this because they don't have a clue about men.

 

Men spend most of their lives trying to figure out women. So don't tell me we're basically the same. We sure as hell are not! If we were, men wouldn't spend half of our personal lives trying to figure out what we did wrong.

Women spend their lives thinking they know all about men. They haven't a clue!

At least the men are being honest with themselves. We've never claimed to understand women. Stephen Hawking even commented on it saying it is the one of the great mysteries he never solved.

I don't know, Maybe that makes mixed social groups a good thing. But boys need time to be boys too. I can remember being a boy not wanting girls to screw up what we were doing. You never wanted girls around for something like a good dirt clod war. They would just start crying and ruin it.

 

I don't know about the scouts. I was a scout and I loved it. But looking back, it was just another aspect of the religious brainwashing I got as a child. And even worse, religion combined with the military.

The fact is, the scouts have always been a religious paramilitary organization. It's most basic role was to train young men for the military. THAT WAS the true point of scouting. We spent most of our time preparing to fight WWII again - survival skills, marching, the military uniforms and format. It was all about the military.

I'd have been better off studying science or economics books, instead of training to fight a war, or to survive in the forests of Germany in the snow.

 

But at least I know how to boil water in a paper bag over a campfire. That has always been a useful skill.

What we are, how we behave, what we think we are as far as gender is concerned: 90% is cultural conditioning, from day one. Male infants are treated differently from female infants and different characteristics are expected from them. Female infants are treated differently from male infants and different characteristics are expected from them than from males.

When the characteristic that is expected from a male infant/child is seen in a male infant/child, it is reinforced by the parents and society. When the characteristic that is expected from the female is seen in a female infant/child, it is reinforced by the parents and society.

When characteristics that are expected from females are seen in a male infants/children, parents and society react by discouraging it. If a perceived/expected male characteristic is seen in a female infant/child, parents and society react by discouraging it.

This kind of cultural conditioning continues throughout life, and it is constant, total immersion which is very strong and intense.

If you had an experiment where a male infant/child was raised entirely as a female, it would think and behave and react to things in the way we expect females to think, behave and act. If a female were raised entirely as a male, it would think, behave and react to things in the way we expect males to think, behave and act.

Here are two glaring examples of what we do: Sensitive men are ridiculed. Agressive women are ridiculed.

 

I taught in a community college that had a chef (Culinary Arts) program, it was an AA degree. I taught one of the classes they needed to get their degree (a non-cooking related course). Half of the students were male and half were female. It isn't because females are less adept at cooking professionally that there may be more men who are professional chefs; it is like any other profession that is dominated by males--that our society encourages and rewards men far more often in these professions that it does women. The more women get treated equally in professional settings, the more they will equal men in professional careers.

 

The Mormons are very large and fast growing group of people who can rule themselves and make decisions any way they wish to, so long as no laws are broken.

And with our separation of church and state, the government can't interfere with the rulings of a church.

 

Not surprised by this at all. The scouts have gone down the wrong path, and these are the consequences.

 

Other churches have Ranger programs for boys. Doubt they will change.
