Denmark passes law banning burqa and niqab

I would say this is the only thing we will most likely ever...sorta... agree on.

Liberals hate devout Christians and would love the opportunity to ban the Amish cap...or veils worn in the Catholic church. Women should have the freedom to be modest.

Denmark should not have let these people in past their borders. It all begins with allowing only those people in who can assimilate.

 

I must have been omitted from the Anti-Amish liberal mailing list. I wasn’t aware of a crusade against them.

I actually do favor some efforts towards assimilation, but only about things that actually matter, like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and pluralism. Immigrants should be won over to our most important values. They are less likely to be impressed by those values if we start dictating what they can wear. Seems hypocritical to me.

 

We should be won over by the immigrants...not the other way around. Assimilation is key for a healthy society to exist and prosper. And key for the success and livelihood of immigrants.

 

heck, many Christians want a theocracy too, both Muslims and Christians need to just believe what they want and stop trying to force their beliefs on others, luckily most Christians and Muslims do just that, it's just that small minority of each that cause all the problems

the truth is, one can't force anyone to believe what they believe, they can only force them to pretend to believe what they believe out of fear of physical or social harm - no religion should want that

I agree. I think the problem we have is that the punishment didn't fit the crime. Be glad that people who steal posters in your country don't face torture and death at the hands of government.

Not my country. But better lick 'em into shape than have them spread their filth unchallenged. This is a good thing. Getting them out of Europe would be better.

Exactly. Forcing them to cover their face has no place in civilized society. Lets not pretend that women voluntarily cover their faces and submit to beatings.

 

Beating women is inexcusable, but apparently I've got more exposure to different demographics than you do. I've spoken to Pentecostal women that wear nothing but denim skirts and refuse to cut their hair, and I've spoken to devout muslims who never let anyone see their hair, and the rationale is always the same: They want to wear a symbol of devotion somehow. I don't hold that against them, even if I think it's kinda silly.
