    You're just flat out wrong.

Trump did NOT push for the Cruz bill. He stated a desire to use the kids as leverage for more than that. And, as I stated I absolutely and totally reject the creation of a humanitarian atrocity for use in leveraging partisan bills in congress.

Please remember that when the OP piece was written, the content of the Cruz bill was not even finalized. Schumer and others were being asked to respond to claims of Republicans concerning what their intent was.

There seems to be a problem. If the "families" are held in detention together, the Democrats sue saying it violates the Flores Settlement. If the children are put in foster care and the adults detained the Democrats are up in arms that children are separated. If the "families" are released into the country with a hearing date, they do not appear. It's a situation.

Yes, incarcerating families is not cheap and easy.

Let's remember that the number of undocumented aliens in the US has not increased for ten years. We're not addressing a disaster that can justify carrying out an atrocity such as having our government permanently take children from families.

All I've argued is that Trump's policy has families being split up PERMANENTLY. Lawyers for family members can't even find where their kids ARE.

The head of HHS has said all parents can talk to their kids by phone. But, that is absolutely NOT true.

I'd point out that if a family is incarcerated together they share the same identifying "A number". If the children were taking from their family, they are given different "A numbers". These kids end up separated.

When a parent gets deported, they are told they can track down their kids by phoning HHS from the country to which they were deported!!! But, at that point the parent doesn't know their kids case number or which of the various detention facilities has their kid. In fact, their kids may have been placed in foster care (especially with young kids) or even placed for adoption.

We're seeing Trump's executive branch divide children, even babies, from their families PERMANENTLY.

The answer is simply.........don't come here unless you file the appropriate paperwork to immigrate legally. I can't understand your sympathy for those trying to game the system and bypass the process.

Oh, please. Surely you have a better idea than to suggest that government can perpetrate a crime against a family if there is suspicion the family may have broken some law.

Search for wall. The only reference I can find to "wall" is in the definition section. Not Cruz bill, but the latest immigration reform bill that was voted down this week.

A crime? What crime? Entering the US illegally is a crime that should result in immediate removal. Catch them on US soil here illegally, bus them straight to the border.

But, that is NOT what they did.

Instead, they took away the children and put them in baby jails sprinkled around the nation.

Then, they provided NO METHOD for those families to be reunited again - EVER!

What makes you think that isn't a crime?

Besides, applying for asylum after entry is an accepted approach.

Asylum seekers are required to go to a port of entry to declare, not sneak across the border and claim asylum after you are caught by authorities.

Hmm, after all the attacking it's kinda stupid that they would do this IMO.

Just more tribalism and people not wanting the Right or Trump to do anything that may be considered "good"

Even doing something the Left wants is evil, thankfully this tactic is falling more and more.

Trump is going to win the next election with this kinda stuff

Entering the country and then applying for asylum is a time honored methodology.

Consider a person south of our Southern border who is in serious danger from some drugs operation.

They may not feel they can risk official contact on their side of the border and/or may feel there could be people watching for them there.
