Thanks. I knew people working at the unemployment office who said the place was packed with Bell telephone operators for about six weeks. I thought they no longer existed, but concede you are correct.
I think 1982 was the last time I placed an operator assisted call.

Blasey Ford may be happy "not to pursue her allegations any further", but she may have to confront the very real possibility in the near future that SHE'S got legal trouble of her own! Several excellent civil lawsuits could be brought squarely against her -- for slander, for libel, and for defamation against Brett Kavanugh.

In such civil cases, "Truth is a defense" -- yes -- but when a person is accused, attacked, and subjected to devastating ruin because of allegations made against him, THE ACCUSER MUST PROVIDE PROOF AND EVIDENCE! If there is none, the person making those accusations can be easily sued into the poor house for the rest of his/her life because of enormous awards that the courts can order the defendant to pay!

I could be totally wrong, of course, but if I were Blasey Ford, I'd be on my knees, begging Kavanaugh not to sue me! The law is very clear about these kinds of things... so clear that a first-year law student could zero-balance-out her bank account and leave her in rags, garnishing every paycheck she gets for the rest of her strange life....

To be fair she made her Great Big Payday and got her guaranteed book contract, and so she doesn't need anything else. The Dem Party has been very very good to her so far.
