Professor Penalizes Student: '"Mankind" Does Not Mean "All People” To All People'

That's not the arguing point. None of us are arguing whether or not the professor has the right to do this. The argument being made is whether or not marking someone up for using "mankind" is justified morally.

 

It is justified morally if in fact the standards for the essay are spelled out and the consequences for failing to meet them are likewise spelled out. The student has the information on which to decide what to do. There is no other 'moral' question involved. Dictionaries and what they say about word usage , just are not designed to resolve a lot of moral questions.

 

big deal, so the teacher has some querks, in real life you will have many bosses like this, you just learn to role with it, not a big deal as some are making of it, I mean how would you like to have Trump as a boss? or Trump university teaching you the alternative facts....
