There was no reason to believe he was likely to be armed or that he was dangerous and if he wanted to destroy evidence he would have done so long ago but I'm sure as he already knew and his lawyers advised him he was under investigation and destroy ANYTHING could bring another charge. They could have sent two agents to ask him to come with them and then served a search warrant. It didn't require an early morning raid with 26 armed with automatice FBI agents and two patrol boats in the canal behind the house.
