Unless you have probable cause, you don't need to know

Using a little known near century old provision in the Internal Revenue Code, the chairmen of the House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee are authorized to request the president's — or indeed anyone's — tax returns from the IRS to conduct an investigation.

Senator Chuck Grassley, chair of the senate Finance Committee, if necessary, will shortly announce that if the House Ways and Means Committee pursues Trump's tax returns, it will go after Nancy Pelosi's tax returns, George Soros's, Tom Steyer's, Dianne Feinstein's, and those of the top 20 donors to Democrat super-PACs.

So giddy up! You wanna have a Witch Hunt? Let's have us a Witch Hunt!

Sorry, but to get someone's tax returns from the IRS it is necessary to have a good and legitimate reason for getting them. Grassley's reason is partisan payback, as he has essentially admitted. He loses.

WaPo: Trump plans to fight tax returns up to the Supreme Court

The Washington Post reports that according to two administration officials, "Privately, Trump has told White House advisers that he does not plan to hand over his tax returns to Congress and that he would fight the issue to the Supreme Court, hoping to stall it until after the 2020 election."

    https://www.msnbc.com/hardball/watc...returns-up-to-the-supreme-court-1472979011573

^ video at the link. Trump is fighting, as I expected he would, to keep his tax returns away from Congress at least until after the 2020 election. He really is trying to hide something after years of insisting that he was willing to release the returns, but that it was an IRS audit preventing him from doing so.

It's time to see those returns and it's time to see the full Mueller report. Enough of this nonsense. Even redhats should be in favor of this if they really believe that Trump is on the up and up.

So your whole argument is: since he refuses to show them, then he must be hiding something? So you want a peak in order to look for something that you suspect is there, but have no proof that it is? That is called a fishing exhibition. Maybe he will not show them because there is no law requiring him to show them and he will not be bullied into it. I would not require it from any President of either party when it is not a law.

So, do you have something against the 4th amendment?

Pass a law...then you can see them.

    Do you have probable cause?
    Spell it out.
    What specific crime?
What evidence that this crime occured and what specifically in his tax return do you have cause to believe verifies this crime?

Hey Rep. Neal, Where’s YOUR Tax Return?

I guess Senator Grassley will need to add them to the list of tax returns he is requesting based on the same century old provision. And their major political donors too, of course.

Seventeen out of twenty-five Democratic members of the committee asking the IRS for Trump’s tax returns didn’t share theirs.

Earlier this year Nancy Pelosi said she believes the people want to see President Trump’s returns.

Pelosi supposedly she is worth almost $30 million and didn’t release her tax returns “what is Pelosi trying to hide?”

Schiff is another one who refused to release his returns.

Other Democrats who haven’t released their returns include Maxine “impeach him” Waters, and Jerrold Nadler. In Nadler’s case, I would like to see his returns to find out if the Iranian Mullahs paid him off to vote for the Iran nuclear deal, (Read the full list here)

This is a good point. In the USA, are Members of Congress required by Law to declare what interests they have, for example in real estate, shares etc etc? It is mandatory in Australia.

    Link.

Actually - it's time for congressmen to behave like congressmen and pay attention to their jobs. They are not the IRS.

No one is saying Trump is squeaky clean, that Trump associates have been mostly caught up in process crimes and Obama associates are walking free just shows how close to a banana republic we have become.

I doubt an Aussie qualifies to access it. Here, it is all on the Public Record, and anyone can access it without request. Thanks for your responses. Cheers.

Smells like the next Russia hoax. It would be hilarious if they did everything they could to get the tax returns, fail, then Trump releases them and they are on the level. I don't put it past Trump.

Honest question: Just where does "State" end and "Deep State" begin?
