It warms my heart to see those on the left and right coming together when being lectured by a German.

I don't recall ever supporting Obama using drones blindly. I was always against the use of drones in combat unless it saved our soldier's lives. My general feeling is that you should try not to be in the war in the first place, but if you are you have to save your people.

    I believe it.

I think Trump strung Nancy and Chuck along, and let them think he'd fallen into their "Trump the Warmonger" trap.

Here's Chuck and Nancy whooping it up thinking they'd played the Orange Man for a sucker, and their warmongering Trump dreams were about to come true.

But then Trump went "Yoink!" and he pulled the carpet out from under them.

This could be a ploy to rattle the Iranian cages. They read our and watch our media. So putting this out there like this is a fast way to get a message loud and clear to Iran.

I don’t want war. But we need to do a “proportionate” response.

When Israel is attacked by 7th century Muslims, leftists always say Israel should not over react. They say Israel should respond “proportionately”.

    Shouldn’t we respond proportionately?

I'm glad that he didn't go through with it. It would've killed 150 Iranians, and then there would actually be a war between the US and Iran. War would be official, if he did the strikes yesterday.

My own feeling, Trump didn't do feces. He rolled over and went back to fantasizing about Melania. The next day he was shouting at everybody as to why they didn't wake him and how he had to nuke Tehran, but they told him he had been told how many people it would cost and he had then called it off.

"Don't you remember, Mr President? We all thought it was such a wonderful humanitarian gesture"

"Of course I remember, I have a mind like a steel jockstrap. It was a great gesture, like the kids holding up their fingers, I'm so attuned with the youth, due to my constant vitality. "

So Trump (who always hires the best) doesn't listen to the advisors he has chosen.

It just keeps getting better and better.

So, Obama was just a stupid puppet who only did what his advisors said and never made a fricking decision on his own? Good to know.

I think it was a logical play. Obviously the Irainians listen to our news. It was a scare tactic IMO. And a good one.

Right. We'd be too busy with the war with Russia.

It's that kind of logic that keeps the Cleveland Brown's fans believing this is the season.

Oh, we are all aware of the contemptuousness. It doesn't look as good on those who brag about being in the grips of it as they seem to think.

Not bragging, just stating. Preferably, I’d much rather be wonderfully amused, like listening to an Alma Deutscher Sonata, but Trump is no Alma, so I do the obvious.

could be they found out the drone was not in international airspace and they realized that at the last minute... or at least were not 100% sure

Seriously. After listening to Trump just make crapolla up for three years, does anyone really believe what comes out of this Whire House. Everything that Trump let’s out, passes through the, “ how can this make me look better then Obama.” filter.
A guy who makes s.h.i,t up in every statement he makes, can’t be trusted when the same s.h.i,t hits the fan.

If Clinton had won in 2016, that drone would never have been shot down. The tankers would not have been attacked.

It is Trump's actions that have escalated tensions in the Gulf.

But that is all beside the point anyway. Trump did not take an informed decision when he ordered the strike. If he had been informed he would have known about possible casualties before he took a decision in the first place.

His tweet has laid bare his own incompetence.

Perhaps he should have inquired about casualties beforehand. Granted. But the bottom line is that when he found out about them, his judgement was correct.

The panicky and shrill voices warning that Trump is looking to start a war can all settle down now, ffs.

He wants to pressure Iran, not have a war with Iran.

There will be no war with Iran.

    Sure,

Btw jimmy, when this story first broke, it seemed like you were skeptical of the veracity of the story... that does not seem like an enthusiastic response. How do you feel about this story?

Perhaps he should have inquired about casualties? PERHAPS???

FFS that is fundamental before you launch weapons. The fact that he didn't get briefed about it before he took the decision reveals two fundamental problems
    - the incompetence (or, in the case of John Bolton, the manipulativeness) of his advisors; and
    - his own incompetence for not asking earlier.

Trump is a moron. He made the right call not to make the strike, but this episode reveals how fundamentally incompetent he is.

But it also reveals something about his judgement and sense of fairness. If there is a next time, he'll ask. And you're right about one thing. Somebody didn't tell him up front. He's was probably told they were going to hit missile sites - like the frickin launchers. I served in the military. I know quite a bit about weapons. But if you tell me that we're going to hit launchers, I realize that there may be a few unfortunates who happen to be near them at that time. I wouldn't have guessed that things are configured in a way that up to 150 would be killed. I would need to be told that.

Well he'll damn sure ask next time something like this is proposed, and somebody better damn sure tell him.

Ya know ... I recall Trump hit Assad's facilities after the Syrians were accused of using poison gas in an attack. But he hit them at night when those facilities wouldn't have people in them.

And yet he also showed zero mercy for ISIS, killing tens of thousands of them.

This shows discretion and judgement. Good for him.
