The media is supposed to report the news, not create the news they want the public to see, I hope the kid wins. A federal judge reversed his ruling Monday and announced that the family of Kentucky teenager Nick Sandmann can sue The Washington Post for libel over its coverage of the teenager. Sandmann’s family sued WaPo in February, writing that the publication allegedly “target and bullied” the teenager after an incident involving a Native American activist at the Lincoln Memorial in January. Judge William Bertelsman rejected the suit in July, citing the First Amendment, but changed his mind Monday and agreed to allow three of the 33 published statements to move forward, WaPo reported. https://www.conservativedailynews.c...million-lawsuit-against-wapo-to-move-forward/
Case still has no merit... the 3 statements proceeding are reported quotes from the activist... You cannot sue a newspaper for reporting quotes...
The plaintiffs submitted an amended complaint SNIP Bertelsman said the amended complaint also argues that Phillips "deliberately lied" and "had an unsavory reputation." The new complaint also states the Washington Post should have known about Phillips due to the previous coverage of him. ENDSNIP https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...inst-washington-post-can-continue/2489395001/ I find that abundantly silly, but lawsuits have proceeded in this country for less.. A newspaper is not responsible for vetting people involved in incidents who give them quotes, even if they were lies... If that's the case, they might want to consider suing Phillips, since he was the one making the statements...
The judge revised his previous ruling to allow 3 of the 33 statements to move forward... Interesting. That rarely happens. All three of the statements revolve around direct quotes revolve around Sandman blocking Omaha Nation elder Nathan Phillips‘s path and were direct quotes from that the elder. Other courts involved as well as this one have stood by the principal that Omaha Nation elder Nathan Phillips had a First Amendment right to “offer his subjective point of view, and the Post had a right to report it.” He is still going to lose now with significant attorney costs.
Case most certainly has merit, the media reports the news, they dont create the news to be what they want to portray. They slandered that kid they were calling him a racist and because of it he and his classmates were harrassed, WAPO should be made to pay through the nose. The liberal fake news factories need to be shut down
And yet, you still seem to be unaware what 3 statements are proceeding in the lawsuit.... Nothing to do with being a racist (he is) or whether he and his classmates were harassed (they were) We have tried to educate you, and failed again... The WaPo is not a fake news factory.... Yes, it leans liberal, but so does the Washington DC area as a whole, so that makes sense..
Wapo and you are just alike, calling the kid a racist and you dont have a clue, thats what the left does just toss's the racist claim out there to detract, but instead they have rendered the racist word worthless, just like crying wolf
He is suing numerous other media entities for the same amount so it is pretty much “the media”. He may have a claim against the elder but newspapers publishing quotes — and seeking over a billion in compensation (the typical wrongful death lawsuit for a male minor is under $5 million) — makes him a leach. He definitely thinks he is awfully important and the same people that are typically for tort reform are cheering him along. So much for “conservative values”
Nope, they let them go forward because they weren't "publishing quotes", in 3 specific instances, the judge allowed it to move forward because they invented situations that didn't happen and attached it to Sandman. No matter what happens, the case is moving forward into Discovery and that is HORRIBLE for the Washington Post. Now they will get to see emails, texts, phone calls and interview certain people related to the situation. The view of media is being pulled back and that is what Sandman and his attorney's have said, I doubt they would settle even if WaPo wanted to
I'll take that bet, I don't think Sandmann and his family want money more than they want the truth. I don't think WaPo is going to get out of this one.
I also support abortion, to an extent. And gay marriage too. Go ahead, I'm ready for you to be mad about it. You have no idea if I'm conservative or not.
