Really, what does that even mean? If you get in a car and drive to work, there's always a probability that you'll be killed while driving. Every aspect of our modern lives comes with some risk. So, suggesting that you'd be "risking your life" to return to work is utter toss. How about this though, for those infected, are they willing to venture our into the world and infect others? Like that Chris Cuomo dude? Your premise is ridiculous.
I've been working the entire time in a hospital that has recorded over a dozen COVID deaths, and I consider myself lucky for not being stuck in quarantine and unemployed, so I guess my answer would be a solid YES.
Even in hospitals and nursing homes, employees are getting infected, but not dying at high rates like the sick and elderly patients are. None of us is immune to infection, but if the folks who are in direct close-contact with the sick on a daily basis and not dying in significant numbers, then other workers are even safer. Getting infected just adds to herd immunity. "Lock down" has not spared the oldest and sickest among us and those folks are already, and will continue to be, locked down.
I have never stopped living like I always do aside from attending my Church via internet. One question I would ask the fearful. We know that automobile fatalities account each and every year for far more deaths than this plague will ever do. Why not mandate a speed limit of 5 miles an hour. You know what that would do to save lives? Get things into perspective folks! You are not going to remove my God given liberties to satisfy your false sense of security and fearful outlook on life!
I want to add .....that is a "fearful" loaded question. The kind that "Fake News" would ask Donald Trump. It assumes that if one goes back to work......he/she risks her/his life. Of course if you drive to work, you Do risk your life regardless of China Virus. By the way, "Have you stopped beating your Grandma"?
When I see Warren Buffet working behind the counter at Starbucks I will go back to work. Until then....
55 to arrive alive if implemented again would make a lot of difference. But it is inconvenient like lockdowns. Let 'em die!
Those that are at risk must isolate....it is their choice. The China Virus is never going away. Just like the flu. Grow up and get used to it!
Amazingly, the homeless on the streets of LA aren't dropping like flies. But don't worry, if Covid goes away, the media is going to scare you with Asian murder hornets. They may even bring back the scary killer bees from mexico/Africa.
Yes, but only reasonable risk. I wouldn't work in a nursing home or hospital without the proper PPE. I wouldn't work in a crowd with no distancing. But I've risked my life every day on jobs before. And while I am mostly working from home, I am also still visiting customer sites. This is really about preventing spread more than personal safety. If I go to work I potentially put dozens of other people at risk; and risk unknowingly spreading it throughout the local community. How would you feel if you didn't take precautions, you are an asymptomatic carrier, and you killed other people? Not surprisingly, trumpers think this is ONLY about their personal safety. The idea of protecting those around them never enters their heads.
Sorry, its not about spread and never was. It was about over burdening the medical system which never came close. Everyone will catch it, especially when school starts again, and another spike will happen, but we will have the beds and ventilators ready to treat everyone as needed. There will be inevitable people who die, we cant prevent that, ever.
Are the people voting no still receiving a regular paycheck? This goes against everything that the democrat party stands for, but now is the best time ever for some personal accountability. People can go back to work and take precautions, but then again, that would be racists and sexist and xenophobic somehow to expect someone to bear responsibility.
What is not surprising is for folks like you who want to raise these straw men arguments of yours. How about hearing it directly, from me then. I care about everyone's safety. I am not a carrier, and when I go out, I assume that the others out there are also non carriers. Why? Because we've been locked down now for almost 7/8 weeks. In that time, if we haven't exhibited some kind of symptoms by now, we don't have it. My going into public isn't putting ANYONE at risk. Now, that CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.. I think he has some splainin to do..
No. It's unreasonable. I would love to but I know that I can get people I care about at work sick if I go in. So no. I don't want to go back in until it's reasonable to do so again.
So what did we do to make sure car fatalities went down? We increased the drinking age, made them pass tests, forced manufacturers to put in seat belts and air bags. Heck my car yells at me to turn off my headlights before I leave the car. Why can't we apply the same standard to COVID-19? Don't let people go back to work nonessential jobs until there are reasonable precautions in place?
I know several with immunity deficiencies, diabetes, obesity, asthma and other risk factors. I believe they are responsible enough to take the precautions necessary. The virus is here to stay. The not so at risk need to resume living so they can prop up the healthcare system that keeps these people alive. That is unless you are a socialist like AOC that just wants government to print more money and feel it is not necessary to work.....ever!
I can't think of a single person that would duck work for such a reason. But an asteroid strike is another possibility.
Great point....about the homeless. I would love to compare statistics of China Virus victims from the homeless population ad compare it to the general. You'd think in their congested living conditions (like you said) they'd be dropping like flies!
Any excuse you can offer will always be used by some. Had one employee tell me his dog forgot to wake him up. I told him to tell the dog to look for another job!
Not talking possibilities but probabilities At no point has the road toll reached over 70,000 in two months
