The Revolutionary War was a wasted effort as we revert back to a system of serfs and lords and generational aristocracy.

The government and corporate media are gaslighting you when they pretend they care about policy and the average American. The USA was only country to have bread lines caused by a pandemic.

Even if this is true, they still pay way more than their fair share. We are supposed to look at the wealthy and demand that they pay more so that politicians have more power. Unfortunately, it won't be long until people are pointing at you.

ROFL well since the bottom 50% pays virtually no taxes the next 30% simply take the standard deduction and the top 1% pay 40% of all income taxes are the ones who get audited why would you expect different?

The reason their taxes are so high is the bottom 50% pay nothing and get oodles of free stuff.

But naturally that doesn't count because they deserve free stuff.

So you too have no problem with them cheating on their taxes. FYI, their taxes as a percentage is not high, most certainly in historical terms.

Why are you claiming the are cheating, unpaid doesn't necessarily mean cheating. Their could be audits, there could be court filings, there could be normal extensions etc etc.

Of course the very wealthy pay more in taxes , they have the vast majority of the nations wealth. Can you expect those who cannot pay an unexpected $400 bill to pay more, those who are living hand to mouth???

"The CBO analysis (pdf) out Wednesday found that massive Internal Revenue Service budget cuts and staff reductions over the past decade have resulted in a sharp decline in examination and enforcement of tax underpayment and avoidance."

Hmmm seems the Democrats and Obama/Biden were cutting their funding and the the Republicans and Trump have started not only restoring it but getting it to be more efficient.

As a tax payer, I can tell you that it pisses me off - and I don't know why you would be okay with the richest 1% being responsible for 70% of all unpaid taxes. If the average person doesn't pay their taxes, they are harassed with phone calls. But these folks - the ones you apparently appreciate greatly - get to skate?

    Funny numbers.

Why don't you tell us what percentage of the 1% have unpaid taxes and what percentage of the rest of the population has unpaid taxes.

Of course that will tell a different story so you guys can only use dollar figures which is laughable at best.

They should lock up people who do not pay their taxes.

Then again.... that would probably be called racist.

Well it would be racist if you mentioned all the back taxes owed by Al Sharpton.

We have to blame Democrats because they do not want people to be united and fight for democracy instead they want divide people by race gender and sexual preferences.

Well do the research and come up with your numbers before you expect to give you any credence about your predictable and redundant cynicism.

The article says 70%, that's the lions share.

And you agree they PAY the lions share too so it makes sense they would also have the lions share of unpaid.

Need to break down this part of the article.

The CBO found that boosting the IRS budget for audits and collections by $20 billion over the next decade would increase federal tax revenue by $61 billion—and, as a result, reduce the federal budget deficit by $40 billion.

So, in 10 years if the IRS spends an extra $20 billion they will accumulate a net positive of $40 billion. That’s $400 million per year or approximately $1.26 per year for every American.

Have you looked at our NATIONAL DEBT???? In order to make a dent in it we need to go back to the Tax Rates of the Eisenhower administration with a top rate of 90% for the wealthiest. That's how we paid down our WW2 debt.

You are funny! Tax everyone 100% for 5 years and we wouldn't even put a dent in the debt.

Not entirely accurate. US income was $18.6 trillion last year so at a 100% tax rate we could pay off our nat’l debt in less than a year and a half.

    You are being sarcastic, right?

With all the revenues the US takes in every year, they still don't have enough left over to be able to save any of it.

And there's no way you're going to be able to raise tax rates anywhere even near 100%.
For one thing, that would create a disincentive to economic growth.
So, for example, if you doubled tax rates from 25% to 50%, the tax revenues would not double; it would be less than that.

Besides that, the entire economy isn't just all the government's for the grabbing, like some people seem to think, in discussions about the national debt.

That reminds me: Did Sharpton ever pay his taxes? Last I heard, he owed something close to $5 million.

Isn't this why we have the IRS? If government corruption and failure is the problem then more government is not the answer.

So now you are in favor of raising tarriffs like they had during that time too? What about getting rid of the EIC like back then also? What about going back to the other tax rates too? 0-$4k was paying 17.4% and it increased from there. Of course we would have to re-enact all of the tax breaks that people had back then also where you could write off all interest, etc.

The bottom line is that Dems only focus on the top bracket back then but somehow don't want to think about all the other stuff. Especially after they have fooled all the dolts into thinking that the rich were the only ones getting tax breaks.
