Trump fired the intelligence community inspector general for forwarding to Congress a whistleblower complaint that had implicated Don in his scheme to use public funds to extract political help from a foreign government. The message was clear: The lawful performance of one’s duties is secondary to protecting the president.

Compared to other duplicitous acts this one does not stand out......................and that is exactly the point. There have been too many to count, all of which are ignored, excused, rationalized by those unnaturally devoted to him.

What you describe here is the thing that concerns me the most. A Biden victory will still need to deal with this vast segment of disinformation, and how to counter that narrative is going to take time and resources away from the actual problems that need to be fixed.

I'm glad you share my concern. Regrettably, as proven on the board time and again, countering the narrative is futile. Thousands of posts have been written by progressives here demonstrating....beyond any doubt for those receptive to evidence....the factual inaccuracy of beliefs Trumpette's hold. To absolutely no avail. Hence my pessimism about the future of the republic.

That's sad that you believe that. The Mueller report actually says the opposite. There were no contacts with Russian intelligence agence by anyone in the campaign.

The really absurd part of it is that the run through of the election by the Transition Integrity Project had in one of their scenarios a replay of 2016; Trump wins the electoral college and the Democrat wins the popular vote. In their role play, Biden wouldn't concede the election, even though he lost. So the Democrats seem to be planning to make this our last Democratic election.

My point being a Dem prez can go a long way to reversing Trump's policies on everything from climate to immigration. But nothing can be done about those lost to right wing media propaganda.

This isn't about liberal vs. conservative. It's about facts vs. lies. That battle has been lost and nothing will change as long as the Faux's, Limbaugh's, and Hannity's are spewing disinformation 24/7.

Since we have half the country believing the U.S. is exceptional and the other half considering it defective, we have no common values. In that situation elections are not important. The lack of common values is killing us.

I disagree. I had the same debate with a friend of mine who sent me an article by JD Hirsch. A proponent of the Common Core curriculum. It isn't a lack of common values that is causing such division............it's a lack of accepting what is fact and what is fiction.

McTreason's duplicity over a quick replacement for Ginsburg in the wake of him blocking Garland's nomination is yet another example of a complete breakdown in comity.

All parties think there are things that can be improved about the country . . . that's the entire point behind having a political party. As for American exceptionalism, I sort of agree. After all, when Trump was running in 2016, he explicitly said he hated the term "American exceptionalism" and hated how it was offensive to other countries. In fact, he claimed he never liked the expression. I doubt that half the country supports him, but I guess the third or so that do must be okay with his hatred for believing that the US is exceptional.

Certainly there is room for improvement. It is the difference between making exceptional better or digging the country out of being defective. I think it is positive for Americans to consider their country and society to be exceptional. I think the same for Japanese or Argentinians. If we don't have esteem for our country we won't work to clean up the imperfections. Despair fixes nothing.

Then CNN needs to be closed down. But 40% is giving them to much credit for viewership.

Every nation on earth has experienced a totalitarian govt at some point in its history, to think that we're immune is delusional.

the evidence is overwhelming that russia influenced the election.

With over 130 documented instances of Trump's campaign communicating with Russia in the Mueller report, it is reasonable to be concerned about the possibility of collusion.

After all, Manafort gave critical non published campaign data to Russians so they could, in turn , use the demographic data to target americans for political ads against hillary, and helping trump.

Trump said, on TV "Russia, if you are listening. I hope you are able to find the thirty thousand emails which are missing".

The very next day, Russia starting hacking us --- Russian actors sent phishing emails to accounts at a domain used by Clinton’s personal office. They also targeted 76 email addresses on the domain used by the Clinton campaign.

HOW IN HOLY HELL IS THAT NOT COLLUSION?

Maybe it was done unwittlingly, but he said it right on national TV, which was incredibly irresponsible, reckless, and dare I say, CRIMINAL? After all, he's inviting Russia to contribute to his campaign, by COMMITTING CYBER ESPIONAGE.

It was a joke you say? NO!!!!! President's don't joke about such things, and he didn't joke, he wasn't joking. LISTEN to him saying it. He was DEAD SERIOUS.

    False narrative my ass.

Imagine what would republicans say if it were Hillary doing this against Trump?

Jeez, on scant and very thin evidence, Trump is saying Obama committed treason

If dems win in November, I hope Biden's AG goes after Trump.

His crimes have to be held accountable. It's not normal for a president to go after his former rival, but there are limits.

    BLIZZARD OF LIES

Who knows. But at least he will have the facility and the habit to assemble something along the lines of a functional government around him to act as buffer for presidential 'individuality'

To just roll over and allow the wannabe Fascist-in-Chief to make that happen is the antithesis of what our nations stands for.
