    Shades of Opus Dei

But what the hell. We've had the Promise Keepers and others. Politicians are adept at using chiliastic religious organizations to gain power. I wonder how long it will be before a pol now just out of college will be using his membership in the Proud Boys or the Antifa to help begin a career in "public service"

[QUOTE="Aleksander Ulyanov, post: 1072131860, member: 62017 It's not really this bad, at least I think. There IS an actual spiritual dimension to our existence. It's like Teilhard de Chardin said; "We are not human beings seeking a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings immersed in a human experience" Maybe that's it. I dunno[/QUOTE]

    Food for thought.

Well, for President, we all have our own nebular checklist, or at least independents do.

If I were looking to hire someone in the real world, I suppose anybody who rolled up in a car with religious stickers would get the same "thanks for applying, but..." letter as someone who rolled up in a car with political stickers all over it.

A couple thoughts. I am never attracted to people as myself, nor, do I seek them out. I'm more in that camp "opposites attract".

If one believes in heaven then one is there not three entities. 1. God (creator) 2. Angels 3. Human spirts. I would be more inclined to believe that we are not bound to moral goodness and do have a freedom of our destiny. We may be caught up in all the glory of God and our surroundings but like the Angels in the Book of Revelations perhaps man (Adama) became filled with pride and thought they were also Gods. A loving God would give them a second chance and set aside an area (Eden) to chastise them for awhile. Their pride still got the best of them and they seeked out the fruit of knowledge so they too could be Gods. The Father still loved them so he banished them to earth but did give them a way to return to the kingdom.

    I call shenanigans.
The left is too scared of offending Muslims to refer to them as small-minded bigoted ********s.

I see, so you don’t advocate we follow the principles of the Constitution, eh?

Article VI of the Constitution specifies that “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

That line of the Constitution is unequivocal.

Kennedy was too Catholic, and he won.

A SCOTUS judge's qualifications is limited to what the president and senate decide. It could be a 21-year old babysitter with a degree in underwater basket weaving.

Qualified is a completely irrelevant adjective.

Never worry over dying if you're sick. If you're sick one of two things will happen, You will either get better or you'll die. If you get better there's nothing to worry about, If you die one of two things will happen, you'll go to heaven or to hell. If you go to Heaven, there's nothing to worry about, and if you go to hell you'll be so busy shaking hands with everyone you ever knew they'll be no time to suffer, so NEVER WORRY.

When I was in the Peace Corps there were three things that were taboo and could get you sent home. Drugs, commenting on local politics and preaching your religion.
All were taboo because they could hinder your ability to do your job.
    Drugs for obvious reasons.
Local politics were off the table because you could create mistrust in you. We could talk about American politics all day long but not local ones, we were to remain neutral at all times. We had enough trouble dispelling rumors we were all CIA without opening the door for we were there to overthrow the regime.
Preaching your religion was off the table because again, it is a sensitive subject that could cause mistrust. You could certainly go to Church and participate in your religion but you were not to seek converts, leave that for the missionaries not a secular government agency.

We can and should expect the same from our government. The founding fathers did what they could to separate religion from the state and they were right to do so. Not only does it protect me from your religion it protects you from mine. I've never understood why people want religion in the public schools, why you you want anyone teaching your child about God other than you, your priest, rabbi, imam or guru?
We do have a defacto religious test of our government officials, will their religious beliefs interfere with their performance. Kennedy bridged the big span of fear he'd be beholden to the Pope. Many have followed suit. Joe Biden is Catholic. Donald Trump is at best agnostic. Did you know that if Barrett is confirmed she'll be the 7th sitting Supreme Court judge who is or was raised Catholic? Few people realize this because the other 6 has never interjected their religion into their work. She is different in that she has been vocal about her religious beliefs and should be required to demonstrate that she is able to separate them from her judgments. In those few cases where she has had the opportunity to do so she has not and that is worrisome. It's not her religion that we are concerned about, like I said 6 other justices are the same religion and the presidential candidate for the democrats and the speaker of the House as well. It's her ability to separate her religious duties from her government duties.
