It's "voluntary" because it's considered more risky than normal police work. Not so easy to replace. Might be able to do it accompanied by salary increases, but that will cost Portland taxpayers more money.

They could still be ordered to do their jobs. If they won't, then fire them and get people who will.

No problem replacing them. Maybe if they didn't abuse the hell out of people their jobs wouldn't be so dangerous.

If it costs more to prevent nazi stormtroopers from running the police force, so be it. Don't forget that a lot of the insurrectionists who attacked the capitol were former cops.

"left their voluntary positions and no longer comprise a team". It said the officers would continue in their regular assignments.

In other words, they didn't "resign" from the police force.
    In other words, Big Whoop.:bored:

If anybody has a problem with it, then they should avoid the areas of protest or move out of Portland.

You have specific evidence of specific RRT police illegally abusing peaceful protestors? Turn them in. And, the people who broke the law at the Capitol will be prosecuted, whether or not they were ex-cops.

Any "Mexican" food north of the Red River, and/or east of the Sabine River definitely deserves an asterisk on the menu...

What that thug did? You mean use a bit of force against a person that was part of a riot that was trying to physically harm officers? Hope you don't defend Ashli Babbitt being killed by a cop on Jan. 6.

Sorry but you can't dictate what and who is hired by police precincts across the country.

Rioters however are above the law? Can attack police and destroy property willy nilly? Because hundreds of rioters have been let go and not charged for their conduct.

they’re job is dangerous because people were attacking them. If you’re throwing molotovs and rocks and trying to kill the police you’re gonna get dealt with.

I completely support Babbitt getting shot. And this was a member of the press who was hit with the batton in the back of the head while running away from the goon, then was hit in the face when she was on the ground. Then the officer just walked away with the other 50 cops.

Babbitt was on the other side of the door with lots of other people, why was she the only one shot? If you can justify shooting her then there's justification for all of them being shot. But in this thread, the woman was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She was in the middle of a riot and a lot of cops have been injured during the left's summer of riots so who knows what this cop was thinking? Plus the stress the cops feel working riot prevention night after night after night must put a mental toll on people.

And the woman was barely tapped on the head, she's probably had sex rougher than that.

She put herself in a war zone and got hit with some shrapnel, she's lucky it was a cop who was on her ass and not antifa or blm, otherwise she'd still be in the hospital or morgue.

Stuff like this will keep happening if the culture of blaming police for everything continues.

Certainly there are things that some police officers are doing that is wrong, and there is a culture of protecting those in law enforcement who do wrong that also contributes to the problem.

But the blame is not focused, it's just blanketed on all cops, and will only hurt this country if that kind of blind idiocy keeps going.

After watching that video a number of times, I would certainly toss his sorry ass in jail.

The strike to the face is beyond question, a violent, indefensible assault. She was on the ground and defenseless.

The city is far better off without any cop who supports this two-bit thug. All trump supporters no doubt!

    The cop

The victim. Yeah, she is no threat to him. especially not when he is in riot gear. And she is probably half his weight. Lock up the woman beater.

They cheer a cop who attacked a defenseless woman on the ground, but jeer cops getting this butts kicked by a ravenous, armed, blood-thirsty crowd, while defending the US Capitol.

    Textbook typical cop.

Somebody dumb as a stump (with 2-digit IQ) who never had friends and didn't get enough love in high school.

    What a tool.

Who 'cheered' the cop? And the woman, if she actually identifies as a woman, put herself in the middle of a riot of which many have turned violent because so many others have. Meanwhile, many on the left literally cheered the shooting of the woman in DC even though she was behind a door and wasn't a threat to anyone. And most of the people in DC have been charged with trespassing, so that woman was murdered over a misdemeanor. Who do you think got the better deal, Babbitt or the woman in this story?

The best part is you managed to find a picture and name of the cop in this story, but no one can find out who shot Babbitt. Why?

One final question. If Babbitt was black, do you think the story would change a little, maybe just a tad?

Portland Mayor Scrambles as Fallout From Mass Resignations of Portland Riot Squad Begins.
The police's confidence in the city leadership was badly shaken first.

County Sheriffs are elected by the people, whereas the City Police Chief's are subject to the whims increasingly inept city councils. I think it's time for the City Police Chief to be an elected position, with the Police directly accountable to the People rather than the City Council.
    Oh, good.

Portland city council commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty welcomed the event as an opportunity to say something really stupid:
