Israeli airstrikes in Gaza are a form of terror campaign against a people who have basically become desensitized by such terror tactics and have been left hopeless enough to not be deterred by such moves. Otherwise, Hamas' real military assets are not found in these buidlings but in underground tunnels and bunkers. I mention this just to emphasize the pervasive nature of the propaganda that is parrotted as news in the western media. Whenever Israel claims to have degraded Hamas' military capabilities, they are basically counting on Hamas depleting its stockpiles of weapons and rockets. Unlike Israel, which has its stockpiles immediately replinshed by the US, the limited stockpiles Hamas have managed to develop are finite. At some point, those stockpiles will indeed diminish and finish. The evidence shows we have not reached that point.

While the terror tactics against the Palestinians in Gaza will not have any real impact in the war (except to placate the bloodthirst of the homecrowd in Israel and giving a sense of Israel doing something in response to the attacks that were carried out against it), the same tactics used in the past against Lebanon did have significant effect in limiting Hezbollah's room for manuever. Unlike the Palestinians who are under occupation, hopeless and have no where else to go, the people of Lebanon aren't as keen on seeing their homes wrecked and ruined and their loved ones killed. Besides, Lebanon is a fractured society politically and across sectarian lines. Not all groups in Lebanon support Hezbollah and many have worked closely with western powers to limit its room for maneuver and undermine it.

The latter is significant because, on a purely military level, Hezbollah should be able to match much of what Israel can throw at it and has otherwise (other than what I mentioned) fewer vulnerabilities than the Israelis. And that means that if the dynamics in the conflict between Israel and Hamas reach the point where public opinion is left sufficiently outraged by Israeli actions, then Hezbollah can make its move but not before. In this mix, the US has deployed forces to the eastern mediterranean to signal a readiness to enter the fray in case Hezbollah enters into the conflict or in case forces elsewhere in the region such as in Syria decide to do so. Of course, there are also those in the US, Israel and elsewhere, including among certain Iranian opposition groups, who are and have been itching to see a war with Iran. That possibiity cannot be ruled out entirely right now, depending on how events in the region unfold and chances that this conflict will eventually lead to a much larger war are higher than anytime except in the aftermath of the US assassination of General Soleimani.

 

700,000 Palestinians were displaced in 1948 which is roughly ten percent of all non-Jews living in Palestine today. If Israel were to empty Gaza of all of its inhabitants. it's hard to imagine where they would go without making life in the Middle East a lot more deadly (and profitable)?

Agreed. They will always call Israel a bloodthirsty apartheid state. They will always ask Israel for restraint. I've been tired of this BS for a long time. All these people try to pretend like Islamic countries aren't theocratic and military dictatorships. They are almost all apartheid states that discriminate against non-Muslims (Dimmis) and Women. They don't allow for freedom of speech and expression. They kill apostates and homosexuals. Just look at the law on the books in countries neighboring Israel.

Hamas hasn't allowed the Gazans to elect leaders since they took power in 2006, and they will never give their people free and fair elections cause they know the results won't be in their favor anymore. Their ascent to power is the reason Israel is blockading Gaza. They weren't going to let them receive shipments of weaponry. It's bad enough that Hamas tunnels weapons in from Egypt. Like Iran, they were a continuous security threat to Israel that created an urgency for a combined conservative faction led by Bibi.

I think Hamas has made a huge mistake.
