Don't worry, GrubHub, DoorDash, UberEats etc., will take up the slack. Yes, people will pay more for delivery, but that's the free market at work, is it not?

Because the servers get gratuities. 15% to 20% of the bill goes directly to the server without risk or advertising expenses. The servers always make more than min wage. The majority of restaurants fail. Many did not survive Covid.

They will not be going out of business having to pay the labor more than it is worth to them or to you and you will instead have to drive you car to go pick up your pizza like everyone else meaning more people burning more gas. Those unintended consequences.

Sure. You're fine with pizza delivery folks getting laid off, cuz, yur so 'compassionate.'

The Real Minimum Wage Is Always Zero
    [IMG]
'Restaurant workers in California are about to find that out the hard way...'

According to the lie, 'benevolent politicians raise the minimum wage to force greedy businesses to pay their workers a decent wage' and everyone lives happily ever after.

'A wage is nothing more than the price of labor. And labor is subject to the laws of supply and demand. When you raise the price of something, demand falls. That means raising the price to pay somebody will mean fewer people get paid.'

'governments can force employers to pay you minimum wage. But they can’t force a company to hire you.'

'A $20 per hour minimum wage for restaurant workers in California will go into effect in April. To cope with the increased cost of labor, two Pizza Hut operators plan to eliminate delivery service. That means some 1,200 delivery drivers will go from making their current wage to earning zero.'

'expects “more harm to come” from the law as fast food chains “take action in an attempt to blunt the impact of higher labor costs.”'

    Automation.

Actually, businesses don't have to charge anything at all for their services and products. Can you think of a reason why they do?

    NET !!!!

The number of burgers is irrelevant as the the measurement of pay is time

$1 per hour for an average of 4 employees per hour @ 16 hours is $64 per day x 340 days open (average per BLS) = $21,000 per year per store, and the profit per store is currently averaged at $74k per store…..

    They can afford it

    BURGER KING !!!!!

In a regular restaurant that is correct. But I ask again, WHY is the there a wage where the customer is REQUIRED to subsidize that wage ? As a customer I find that to be a little ridiculous as I am already being charged for the food, and Food prices are already thru the roof, and then expected to pay the server when all the profit goes to the restaurant ?

Why do “restaurants” get a carve out to make more money, and then expect that the customer is supposed to pay more, on top of the cost of the food” to subsidize the restaurant ? Isn’t it conservative mantra that you should pay your own way thru life, so why does my business (IT) not get a carve out to pay my employees less money ?

You make it sound like running a restaurant is easy money. The average profit margin for a restaurant is 3-5%. The servers get 15-18% on top of their hourly. Tipping has been customary long before I was born and I don't believe it will end. The server takes zero risk while the owners must advertise, pay the health inspector, business license, business taxes, payroll tax, workers comp, etc. The server always makes more, it just comes from 2 different sources.

Unless it is a large group, I don't know of any restaurant that requires tipping. Personally, I am a big tipper and only tip in cash.

I was not aware of Burger King paying less than minimum wage. Do you have a link?

You tip at a Burger King ?

In my state (Iowa) they can pay tipped wage. My neighbors daughter gets $4.35 an hour at the McDonald's down the street(my neighbor hates it, but he knows she needs to work to grow. Normal minimum wage in Iowa is $7.35 I think

Return On Investment. Some report Return on Asset. Just posting a dollar figure of profits is folly.

I see. So they still cover more n wage if tips are available included. Makes sense. I don’t eat fast food and don’t understand tipping In BK.

Under 20 workers can be paid $4.25 an hour during their first 90 days of employment under the Fair Labor Standards Act but on day 91 they have to be moved up to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

I went to a Pizza Hut once because it was across the road from where my car was being serviced. I had the worst pizza I can ever remember. Their success surprises me. Maybe my idea of good pizza is in a minority.
