What a moron. It is one thing to get upset over mask mandates. But to get upset that the person assigned to the seat next to yours has opted to wear a mask is a new level of idiocy.

I wear masks on planes. I don't do it for my own protection. I do it for my girlfriend. She is immunocompromised. When she gets COVID, she gets it for weeks at a time. And she's at a heightened risk of long COVID.

I'm thinking there's a bit more to the story than him just saying that he didn't feel comfortable sitting next to such a person.... The clue would be the alcohol involved.

I'm guessing he became belligerent and made an ass of himself.

Poor guy. If he doesn't want to sit next to a person with a mask, rent a car. Should have taken responsibility and stopped acting like a self entitled brat.

And the very same thing applies to those who religiously wear a mask demanding that others around them also wear a mask

If that is actually the whole story, why care if someone wears a mask? I just saw like 3 people driving while wearing masks yesterday. I thought it to be strange but it did not bother me or affect me in any way. I also think its super interesting that THIS is the airplane story that gets posted instead of the one about the indian guy going on a rant about white people. Dems love to pick and chose this stuff according to their narrative, don't they?

Very few people do that anymore — they realized that asking magas to be courteous was an ask too far.

Most of the people wearing masks today are because either they are immunocompromised or are caregivers for someone that is.

I have never once gotten upset because of someone’s personal decision to or not to wear a mask or if they asked me to put on one.

Golly.... Who believes that masks protect you? Still? The facts are that a mask is supposed to protect others from you. Not the other way around. So, if someone is wearing one, it screams, I'm sick,..... Should you be forced to sit next to someone who's obviously sick? Does the airline shoulder the burden to give you another option? Think about liability here. If you were forced to sit next to the sick lab on a flight, is the airline liable for damages you incur because of it? I think they should.. And if you are sick, why would you be so antisocial to think it's ok to spread said junk to the population of at least two airports and your flight mates?

People with credentials. I guess that rules out you.
Pretty sure a mask does both.
This is so dumb I can’t even. Even assuming your idiotic premise that masks are for sick people only, do you really think most people wearing masks believe that?
Assuming you were assigned a seat next to an “obviously sick” person, I’m sure the airline would give you the option to move seats or pick another flight.
That’s what conservatives do because they think Covid is fake.

Why does anyone care if someone is or isnt wearing a mask.

If you are worried about a virus, wear a mask, if your not, then don't. But don't expect others to conform to your expectations.

I mostly agree with you, but without having any idea who this famous person is, my first thought is definitely that they are worried that the person is wearing a mask because they are sick. Yes, it's courteous for a sick person to wear a mask to reduce spread of disease to others, but I can see not wanting to sit next to that sick person anyway. Some really conservative person might say they don't want to sit next to that crazy liberal who still wears masks due to covid, but now it seems like the masks I see out in public are more often just sick people, covid or not. If we miss our flu shot deadline at work we have to wear a mask, but I haven't seen it lately. I also just don't see people wearing masks for covid much anymore. But maybe somebody who is worried about getting sick might opt to wear a mask on a plane.

Give him a break maybe, dude was admittedly drunk. I barely managed to stay on a Lufthansa flight back in the late 90s for acting the fool over wanting to continue playing my discman during takeoff and arguing with the German Nazi Stewardess about it. And honestly, I'd have doubled down in the press about it the next day if anyone would have asked me about it.... Fortunately, not my gig....

It was moronic yep, grant ya that.

If I see a person wearing a mask today, I avoid them as they probably have some disease. I would request a different seat on the plane because who knows what they have.

Highlighted in red: The surgical type mask that most people wore during Covid are mainly for not spreading germs to others, not so much protection for the wearer.
For self protection, a N95 mask is the choice. The problem is that the N95 mask is more intrusive, costs more, and was much less available back in 2020. People would not like to wear them, if they could get them. I think the medical community wanted them for the healthcare workers back then. Typically a nurse would replace it numerous times a day, but back then they were wearing them way longer.
Masks do work for their intended purpose. It doesn't mention the type, but I flew last week and saw a few people with masks on, the surgical style, and thought they were being thoughtful.
I guess some people who consider others?
For me, this exemplifies one of the major differences between the cons and libs; the libs tend to consider others and the cons seem to favor the all in for oneself attitude. This isn't an absolute observation, but there seems to be some tendencies.

The problem isn't that the person wore a mask or that he didn't approve of that. The problem is he was drunk and removed from the flight over his behavior. Let's head for left field because of a social media post. They are unimportant.

Your speculation about why they wear a mask is based on what exactly? I know folks who still wear them in all social settings and none of them have a disease.

you cannot be too safe, thus if you are masked up, I will assume that you are sick.

Based on what? If you really felt you can’t be too safe, you’d be masked up lol

The protection level of Mack's should at least be above zero. IOW, they are better than nothing.
I doubt the airlines would keep a terminal TB patient off the plane, mask or no mask.,
