You make the assumption that even if the entire world was socialist, everybody would play by your rules and in the simple mind of most leftists, utopia would be created.

The fact is, most people realize that in order to continue to have people contribute to the social group they are part of they must have a connection to that group or in the least feel that the group is somehow contributing back to them. Only in leftist fantasy land do people get up every morning and work hard and diligently so somebody across the world gets X.

Even with your philosophy, why do we need such a vast defense program, unless countries around the world hate us? why do u think they hate us? One of the reasons is that we arrogantly go to other countries and treat the people with total disdain and want to use their resources without giving them proper compensation. We had no justifiable or constitutional reason to attack Iraq. You say they had WMD, well so did Pakistan and other countries in that region. We attacked Afganistan because of one man, not hardly! The defense dept has already had their budget approved and it is separate from everything else. We spend money in and for other countries yet dont have enough $ for our own people. I used to support the "nation-building" mission in Afghanistan, and I was willing to have our military stay in perpetuity until that mission was accomplished, but it's quite obvious that these politicians aren't serious about completing the mission, so we should reduce our presence there substantially. We need to maintain a base of operations in Afghanistan, though. We can never leave totally. Air-campaigns, special forces, and select infantry units. Oh, and we need to maintain a big cushion around our embassy. Total pullout is NOT an option. We must remain there to disrupt and destroy the enemy.
