they are giving free lunches to those that don't need it. the goal is not to feed but to keep from bruising self esteem. don't you think that tax payer $ can go for a better cause.
These are children we are talking about. What do you suggest? Let the children go without food at school?
LOL Have you seen where and how much tax payer dollars go towards other things? And school lunches is where you draw the line?
Your comment is not at all relevant to the OP, did you not read it or you just looked at an opportunity to spout garbage in a random thread?
Just a thought, but the children can bring their own lunch from home, and it's very possible their parents get food stamps, so that's still free lunch. What do the parents do when the kids are home for the summer and holidays, they still have to feed them.
Well, let's assume a conservative cost per meal at $1.50 for breakfast, $2.00 for lunch, and $.50 for snack. That's $4 a day per every student in Detroit, 180 days a year. This in a state that is (*)(*)(*)(*) broke. Makes tons of sense. Here's a news flash for everyone, and I know it's a really radical concept; if you can't feed your f'n kids, don't have any.
But they do have kids...so now the innocent kids should suffer at the expense at their deadbeat parents?
I bet they each have a cell phone, $100 sneakers, designer jeans, etc. We all know it. We've seen what being "poor" is like in this country. AS far as stigma, YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! Give me a break. And where are the parents, and why can't they give these kids breakfast at home like everyone else? I'll tell you why, it's called LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY. Let the rest of the nation pay for these kids meals, hell, let's give then a laptop, a condo, and a gym membership too. We wouldn't want to hurt their self esteem now would we?
Well if these baby mamas irresponsibly had kids they can't possibly take care of, why should the middle class pay for them? And here's another radical idea for these deadbeat parents; how bout getting a f'n job?? If they can't/won't take care of them, then the kids should be taken from them.
They take their food stamps and buy frozen dinners instead of cooking which is twice as expensive....you know when you are spending someone else's money...WTF
Of course not, I already made a suggestion. Teach them how to work for it, rather than just handing it over to them. Handing it to them because they don't want to be labeled as poor is teaching them that others will provide for them. We should teach them dignity and responsibility (something their parents obviously lacked), not entitlement.
I agree with you. It is the parents fault, not the kids. The kids should not suffer because of the parents irresponsibility.
