that is what the republicans want this country to become, a third world country with no welfare and everyone foraging for food in the forests

If people were given food stamps or welfare without proof, we'd have way too much fraud.

The fact that this is considered tough times by welfare recipients is only more of a reason to stop taxing people to pay for the program.

In Australia 'welfare fraud' is one of those things that occasionally gets sensationalized by the shock jocks when they've run out of things to rant about.

But in reality, with a robust system and unemployment at 5%, it is a non-issue.

I am a "liberal" (according to the American definition) and yet I am against welfare fraud and pro work for the dole, and... 'shock horror', pro getting able people off welfare.

Perhaps if you stopped demonizing people on welfare and started helping them you could reduce the problem. Your ridiculous stereotypes and polarized politics don't help either.

I find it amazing that having just been through the financial crisis, where hard working people en mass were forced out of work through no fault of their own. That you can all still be so cynical about welfare.

This thread, and the OP, are stupid. Instead of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing to a forum why don't you actually go and help your sister and her family get off welfare.

I was behind a lady in walmart yapping on her cell phone while buying 200 in junk foods and precut onions. The reason I first noticed her was due to how much luxury items she had I would never buy(on my dollar).

How about my fat sister-in-law who collects disability for an eye problem that does not impead her ability to ride a motorcycle or gamble at the casino.

in order to get my job as a teacher I had to

    1. get a BA degree
    2. get a masters degree
    3. pass 3 background checks
    4. pass the VCLA and VRA tests
    5. interview

now, if i want to keep it there are other hurdles.

    you get my drift?

Really? Does this CEO think most people on welfare are going to call up and complain like they think it will make a difference?

In the quest to eat and survive most people will put forth a lot of effort to exist.

But some, like the physically disabled, the depressed, the Developmentally disabled and brain damaged, just give up and get institutionalized or die.

Which sounds like is considered a Good Outcome for your management team.

Actually that sounds like a very easy way to get money. A little paperwork, a little time waiting and a few phone calls. If I could get a steady $250 income for so little effort every few months, I'd be all over it.

She goes to the food banks. But most of their food is expired when she brings it home and it makes her and her kids sick. Plenty of cakes and deserts though. I guess they want to make poor people fat. 1 12oz can of Beefaroni for 4 people sucks.

Kid in college thanks to state grants paying for everything.
Car would be impounded if a cop got too close of a look at it. No bumpers, no radio, no mirrors, no windshield washer, no ac, dashboard almost completely gutted, no lap belts. It was a gift from my other sister.

You are not gonna win much sympathy with this one bub. I will use hugely inflated numbers to show what you say is "overbearing":

Lets say she works 1 hour a day, 5 days a week, considering a 4 week month, to keep this 250 a month. Using this figure that equates to her earning, from the taxpayer, over $12.50 per hour.

If you use more liberal numbers, lets say 5 hours per month (this is still probably high), she is earning $50.00 per hour :omg:

I family members that are on welfare (6 to be exact), they think it is funny that I am working my ass off to pay for them to do nothing. I know for a fact that these people take a few minuets a month to run to the welfare office to keep these benefits. They get drink, smoke weed, and relax all day while I am working to pay 25k a year in various taxes for my business while making about 12k a year, dealing this employees, clients, regulations, insurance, ect just so I can make a decent living one day.

So please don't whine that your sister is making $50-$100 a month and "working too hard". It makes you look like a fool.

Clearly being on welfare is very hard.

    So let's end it all.

I do not know your sister, and obviously I have no idea what the situation is there, other than what you have stated. You said she drives so I am guessing there is no serious mental or physical disability in play here. Does she have any skills at all? Did she work at one time, and what did she do then?

I guess I have a hard time understanding that there should be someone that is so unable to find work, that food stamps are the only alternative....

Graphic artist. She designs web pages for politicians and Realtors. Plus postcards, billboards, business cards, etc. She's freelance. She has a guy in Arizona that brings in the politicians but he hasn't done much since his stroke. And you know about the housing bubble.

She has a bad knee that keeps her from doing anything that requires bending or labor. She is going through menopause with periods so serious she leaks during her bi-weekly periods. She leaves blood stains wherever she sits. But she can't qualify for disability because her previous job was work from home over the internet. She does get medicaid and her doc prescribed ICU or ICD something like that, which causes her to blot and clot but hasn't stopped the bleeding. Her periods are so intense you can smell when she's in the room.

and leechs would STILL be at the trough trying to grab more...

the manager at our local Kmart (the MANAGER, pulling in over $50000) had a baby...his wife's FIRST reaction upon learning she was pregnant? "Now we can get WIC!!"

she couldn't but that's the mindset, no matter how much someone has, they want more.

    $250.00

Working at minimum wage, $7.25, that is about 32.5 hours to earn $250. Without paying any taxes at all. Add 7.65% for Social Sec and Medicare and you arrive at 37hrs. How much more depends on state, local, amount of hours you work, etc.

You think she was on the phone 37 hours? 37 hours per month? Every month?

Taking that money is equivalent to having a minimum wage slave 1 week per month. For 37 hours minimum, per month, someone is earning the money you are eating.

Seriously... divide 250 by the total amount of time she was on the phone, and that is what she made per hour.

If she was on the phone 10 hours, that is $25 an hour. Tax free. Nice work if you can get it.

Maybe closer to 5 hours? That is 50 an hour tax free. Nice.

The audacity of this thread is overwhelming.
