How embarrassing. I didn't know they were a girl band until you just told me! Shame!

They look like an 80's hair metal band...if so, I am going to check them out!

The critters were made with a stick welder. A used buzz box type AC stick welder goes for about $100-200. The cart and seat were made using a MIG welder. Even the cheap ones go for about $500 new. Classes are at the local community college continuing education section for $200 each 5 weeks (twice a week). We have a couple of folks on workfare there and even a couple of parolees looking for a better future. I'd considered other vo-tech type careers such as A/C and plumbing, but welding really is a lot of fun. I like creating stuff. Creating out of metal is a lot of fun.

I'd have to give the dolphin some thought. probably not 3D, but a 2D wall hanging. As a fellow Texan, I'm sure you can appreciate this one made from horseshoes:

What? The fact it's a two foot scorpion or that the projects were free except for the work I put into them? [IMG]

Thanks, I have a lot of fun with it. I hope to gain enough experience over the next 10 years before actual retirement to start my own business. Having the option to fall back on skill I enjoy while working for someone else is a bonus. Like is too short to spend it hating a job, donchaknow!

BTW, here's another project. The dog is included for scale. It's almost two feet long. All the projects were made from scrap or leftover projects so they didn't cost me a dime except for paint.

I've been taking night classes for the past 9 months: Welding. Mostly as a retirement career (I'm 54) but also as a backup career in case my present one is pulled out from under me. While I have a few degrees and a background fitting for middle-management, living in an office all day would probably drive me postal. It wouldn't be pretty. [IMG]

Here is my latest welding Project: A welding cart and mechanic's seat,

He's been on a business trip the past two days. I hope to hear from him tonight (I have my short people, so I won't be seeing him until later this weekend).

      Where's HenryPorter?
