Pakistan’s defense minister responded angrily Monday to an early-morning tweet by President Trump that accused America’s once-close ally of “lies & deceit,” countering that the United States had given Pakistan “invective & mistrust” in return.

In his first tweet of the new year, Trump had said the United States had “foolishly” given Pakistan $33 billion in aid over the last 15 years, “and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools.”

Trump wrote further: “They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!” ......snip~

Lets cut their aid all together. No more.....as in. Not one more US dollar.

I did find it amusing how WAPO placed emphasis on Pakistan being an ally. A long key partner. What say ye?

An ally is an ally until they aren't. Why is recognizing that so difficult for some? WAPO's only role these days is acting as Bezos' mouthpiece. One wonders what financial deal not having Pakistan as an ally will derail for Bezos....

If we’re going to begin having proper relationships, let’s do so with ALL countries.

    That cartoon is accurate.

Pakistan sheltered bin Laden. They shelter radical jihadi groups. They make deals with them. "If you don't attack us, you may have your shelter." So, if they're using Pakistan as a base to attack only Afghanistan, Pakistan doesn't care. Pakistan considers these groups to be "good taliban". No doubt, Pakistan had made a deal with Al Qaeda and Al Qaeda's jihadist allies, allowing bin Laden to live in safety in Pakistan in exchange for no terrorist attacks on Pakistan's government. They still hold that Pakistani doctor who helped us find bin Laden in a Pakistani prison.

The U.S. tried to cooperate with Pakistan by warning them of impending drone strikes on dangerous jihadis, only to watch their targets flee the area and disappear into a population center in advance of the strike. The same thing when the U.S. gave Pakistan intelligence on something they could take action on. The terrorists would flee the area, and then when Pakistani forces arrived on scene, they would find nothing.

Pakistan is also believed to be the source of information for U.S. drone strikes in those cases where they can't make a deal, and so they use the U.S. to kill the "bad" jihadis. This explains why some terrorist groups have attacked Pakistani forces in retaliation for a U.S. drone strike.

The Intelligence Services and the Pakistani military still rule Pakistan. The elections of a president and other civilian positions are a sham. These are powerless positions that create a facade of democracy. They are for appearances sake only.

This decision to withhold aid from Pakistan should have been made a long time ago. President Trump is absolutely right to stop this flow of money to Pakistan.

Well, yes Pakistan does do that. But then so does Saudi Arabia, Iran, Israel, the US, Egypt, the PLA, Lebanon..................nobody is doing what they can for peace.

Yep, the world is changing and both Russia and China have been complaining about the threat to global security posed by a US dominated unipolar world. It seems completely obvious when you look at everything that China is doing everywhere in the world.

    You're right.

But different context here. We're fighting in Afghanistan and the same people we are fighting are being sheltered by the Pakistani government.

And I'll bet you money they're sheltering Ayman al Zawahiri, the leader of AQ, the only living or uncaptured AQ leader left who was in power when 9/11 happened. The POS probably lives in an apartment in the basement of the Pakistani ISI.

Ok, so that’s your claim of criticism on the Pakistani government, which I wouldn’t disagree with. And when it suits US interests (which though I’m an American, are rarely my interests) we do the same thing. MEK was being trained in the American desert during the Bush administration and many of the fighters who US soldiers faced off with upon battlefields in the two countries that you mentioned were only a few years latter being armed and trained in southern Syria and Jordan to fight as our proxies against president Assad. There are no good guys, none. And nobody is pursuing peace. Everybody is working to ensure that they’ve got a seat when the music ends.

The concept is insha allah. They aren't worried as long as it happens, then god wills it. It it doesn't, god didn't will it. In either case, it is a decision of god. Convenient hyperbolic thinking for sure, and the definition of amorality. Pakistan is only as stable as we, or the Chinese or the Russians make them. Allowing them to devolve into tribal feudalism doesn't seem the answer, does it?

Well, that depends on who you are and where you’re standing. If that suits the interests of the American Military Industrial complexe, then it will be a great idea, if not, then the US will offer stability. But even then, our idea of stability may not be the same as what the Pakistani population consider so, or what China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iran or any other countries that may be exerting influence there consider so.

Certainly nobody is working on anything that will benefit the folks that live and work there. Men are not angels.

Indeed.....and the leftness didn't like when they thought the Pakistani was messing with their Special Mans head. Then it was a different story and their BO peep had to be portrayed as a victim.

Not really a bag. I’m just not the hypocrit that you are. I’ll criticise USFP no matter who’s conducting it inappropriately whereas you are so blinded by partisanship that you only blame America half the time, when it’s run by a democrat. There are no good guys. If you actually cared about America more than you do trying to win a debate on some ABC forum then you’d want us to always project a righteous foreign policy, not just criticize things when democrats are running the show.

Right, thanks for admitting you don't know what it takes to be a Super Power and that you would rather be some weak country that can't influence anything.

Oh and Monte.....you are human so you were created as a hypocrite. Live with it. and know you can't change human nature.

No matter what Trump takes bold action upon, the left find reasons to say it is a bad idea.

Meanwhile, they remain cowards on all fronts and accept all the harm it brings.

But I admitted no such thing. The US is a superpower, and that alone isn’t what’s concerning. It’s being the sole superpower that is. But that’s changing.

Dwight Eisenhower also criticized the use of nuclear weapons on civilian targets in Japan and General Curtis Lemay declared to his inferior at the time that his fire bombing of Tokyo would get him tried for war crimes if Japan were to win the war. :applause:

Ah there it is.....you can't stand the fact that the US is the lone Super Power.

Oh....but you do Monte. You admit to it each and everytime you dump on the US.

I didn't see you going all highbrow with any moves Russia has made. Or China.

You ask me that every time and the answer will always be the same. I’m an American and as such my concerns lie with my countries foreign policy be cause I’m paying for it. It’s easy to criticize somebody else, but it’s a little bit harder to take responsibility for your own. That’s why we see so little of it.
