The OP is a a crock of poop.

Adam Posen is a member of the Working Group of the Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism. He has been the recipient of major research grants from the Centre for International Governance Innovation, the European Commission, the Sloan Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

Geeze - will you look at that - Adam Posen gets his paycheck from foreign government supported lobbying groups. What a surprise!

Well Trump as usual makes exaggerated claims

He was going to get rid of the ACA on day 1, Propose a Constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress.

After passing his Wealth Shift Legislation he claimed 6 % GDP. He didn't get 2.6 %.

With a tax reform victory within reach, President Donald Trump on Wednesday was feeling even more optimistic about the outlook for U.S. economic growth.

Wildly optimistic, in fact, based on historical data.At a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, Trump told reporters he's holding out for the prospect of U.S. gross domestic product more than doubling to a 6 percent annual growth rate

What is fascinating is that there are democrats and republican for free trade and against it. This cuts across red and blue lines. Historically democrats were, rhetorically somewhat more opposed but that may have changed. Obama supported free trade more than Trump has.

It is true that it is not completely free trade. It is more or less free trade.

I agree, dems and reps have gotten confused about the issue with help of the lying liberal media.

When we discuss David Ricardo's free trade in a rational and intelligent manner, then there is good criticism for Ricardo's version. It is based upon trade that mutually benefits all. "Ricardo’s theory is absolutely right—within its narrow confines." from Wikipedia.

But when we step back and look at the bigger picture, Trump is doing what needs to be done to protect American citizens. Voters will back better U.S. economic conditions. The same can be said for nearly every other country as well.

Ricardo is telling us what global trade Utopia looks like, basically. That isn't the way it is now.

Market is rallying based on reports Repubs in Congress may tell Don to stuff it on tariffs.

    Tariffs: A New Turn?
Meanwhile, the tariff issue could be taking a new turn. A bill in Congress would cut or junk tariffs on 1,662 products.

Also, Trump's power to dictate policy on tariffs without a congressional vote could be curbed. More than a year ago, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, introduced a bill that would require Congress to vote on most tariffs. The legislation has been referred to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance.

Under Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, the power to impose tariffs belongs to Congress, not the president. Over the years, Congress has conceded the tariff powers to the president.

It isn't clear how likely passage of Lee's legislation is. But if the bill did find traction, a positive reaction from the stock market would be likely.

Good, you are an educated man who does not support globalism. Why don't you? You continue to give us end results that are undesirable with no specific mechanisms by which they work. That should be easy for one with your background

I support free trade and globalism because it enables me to buy things cheaper, simple as that. Why shouldn't I?

My understanding is that Ricardo was basically discredited some years ago, also, he was not undisputed even in his day. Whenever I am told that something is BASIC economics i become suspicious. Economics seldom follows it's basic models. If you follow Heilbroner and his school, it seems that most functioning economics, the point at which we all live and die, somehow involves the interstices and the exceptions to the "Iron Laws" of others

How many do you bloody WANT fer crissakes. What? will a signed and notarized confession from Valerie Putin be enough? Seriously, Nixon resigned on a LOT less than they have on Trump right now and what he was being accused of is FAR less egregious

Coming right up. The now famous Trump Tower Email to Trump's son is clear evidence of collusion by a person so high and intimately related to Trump itself that it establishes a clear and indisputable probable cause to indict Trump and bring him to trial. Were Democrats in charge in Congress Trump would be on trial now. Once that happens in November I think Trump's time as President will be up
