    Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny among more than 1,000 arrested during anti-Putin protests

    Police grabbed Mr Navalny, 41, soon after he showed up at the rally in Pushkin Square, as some shouted "Shame" in Ukrainian, a famous slogan of the Kiev uprising that ousted a Kremlin-backed regime in 2014.

    More than 500 people were arrested in Moscow, where riot police were seen beating protesters with truncheons and dragging them into police vans. Tear gas was also briefly used, according to reports.

    A helicopter hovered overhead in an apparent bid to drown out chants.

    Similar demonstrations were organised in cities across Russia, with more than 1,000 people detained by police by mid-afternoon, according to the OVD-Info independent monitor. ...>>

    Perhaps this is a sign that the Russian people have finally had enough of the evil dictator and his rush to throw the planet into another world war. All democracies should support the people in their fight for freedom & liberty!

    I know that you would have preferred the "kill all the Jews" slogan, but that would have been inappropriate in this case!

    Yes, I should not have replied, just reported and will next time but there again one cannot expect much from someone who believes Satire sites are telling the truth and who clearly has no clue on anything. Cannot expect much more than baiting/authoritarianism and bigotry.

    The opposition leader was arrested but the charge which I thought first of all was for 15 years only carries 15 days.
