Wow. This is crazy! I'm probably related somewhere since I have some English in my genes.

Not that amazing. It's likely that almost everyone with European ancestry is related to him.

Think about it. You have 2 parents. They had 2 parents. They had 2 parents. And so on and so on.

Go back to that point in history and you'd need more living ancestors than there were people alive at that time because family trees cross back over each other. People occupy multiple spots. Trace your family tree back 800 years and you had something like 4 billion ancestors living at that time. Obviously that can't happen, hence the need for people to occupy multiple spots.

So the further you go back the higher the chance that someone is a direct ancestor.

 

Good point. I'd be more impressed if she tracked their genealogy back to Ghengis Khan, which it's undoubtedly certain, who we're all related to.

 

I don't even know how to trace my family back that far.

 

Most white folks have Charlemagne's DNA in them. Alpha males produced a lot of children back then.

 

You don't even need that many children for it to be true. Dozens of generations will do it.
