Let's have some philosophical/sociological exercise, shall we? :)

First, please watch this video -

(preferably on a large computer screen or a Smart TV)

    Ready? Good.
No, what "philosophical" conclusions would you make of it? I'll be glad to read your thoughts on the subject. :)
    Thank you in advance.

When I saw the children, I was very sad to think that they would end to be butchered during WW1.

It's a nice trip, it remember also the humanity of people that lived long ago, that can be otherwise reduced to some portraits in a history book.
It can be also melancolic to think that this world disappeared forever, and can't be visited again.

Yeah, all those nice dresses, the class, gentlemen and madams, lots of kids... no tattoos, factory torn jeans, Africans and rappers, drug addicts and Arabs... what's not to like? :)

Maybe they didn't filmed then the dirtiest part of the town, but today Paris is really dirtier and dirtier. That's maybe a major difference, but I supposed there were then a lot of horse excrement.

There is a small anecdot about that, in France, sometimes before passing an exam, or when you play an act, people would say you "merde" that mean "faeces" but it's familiar. It's because, in that century, if there was a lot of horse excrements in front of the theater before you played, that mean there was a lot of people, and that you were successfull.

Horseshit is environmentally friendly so it's better than diesel buses.
I'd rather have classy Paris with horseshit on the street than "clean" Paris full of Muslims and migrants, and people with crazy haircuts. ;)

    Out of context drivel!

Those images are from the most expensive part of Paris. Had they done images of the working areas where there were factories and bars you have seen plenty of tattoos, torn clothing, street musicians, opium addicts and people with dark skins,

Yeah and no Trump either. Right?
Only pirates, prisoners and low class folk had tattoos then. Now every football player with a million dollar salary thinks it's cool to tattoo his arms from top to bottom. And what is worse, the PR agents don't mind.
Don't even start me on pop music or Muslim immigration.

I worry about the old gentleman standing in the middle of the road, about to be run over.

The "philosophical conclusion" that I am reaching from the denigrating tone of your posts is that this is thread is nothing more than an dishonest attempt to hide noxious racism behind a transparent veneer of philosophy.

The FACT that you have utterly FAILED to even attempt to propose anything remotely "philosophical" reinforces that I am correct in this assessment.

Sad that you believed that you could get away with something as odious as this,

You wouldn't deny races exist now, would you? And what's wrong with wanting a nation to be more than a "trading corporation" (where there is no difference who you are - black, white, Muslim, Christian, Atheist - as long as you do your job and get paid for it)?

Well, I wanted to collect some opinions before I gave mine but started a conversation with Mr. VotreAltesse, who is French and spoiled it a bit.

    :)

The racism in your opinions is coming across loud and clear while any "philosophical conclusions" are notable by their ABSENCE!

Yeah, that was one of the positives of that time - there were no liberals creaming "RACISM" and "BLOODY MURDER" at every corner.
I was asking for your, you and others, philosophical conclusions, not mine.

You posted an OP without any shred of CONTEXT and subsequently posted DENIGRATING racist remarks about things that had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the CONTENT of the video in the OP.

In essence you DERAILED your own thread.

You must be so proud of yourself.

The most striking thing to me is the similarities to today, despite the apparent contrasts. Paris architecture, for one, has been maintained.
What philosophical observations can be made are not clear. That humanity remains the same?

I'm anti migration and quite an ethnic nationalist on many points, and if I consider that multiculturalism tend to be a problem, however, I prefer many arabs and/or muslims to many people that consume drugs for instance.

The French built a fine, generous system from French initiative, inventiveness and productivity (#6 in the world currently, by the way; U.S. #4). It is no wonder people want to participate in it. The problem is that their system was designed for the French population. France is not in a position to adopt millions of non-contributing additional souls. That reality is not anti-immigration. It can and should be stated and defended. That a false humanism drives some people to want to give away too much is no reason for the rest of us to allow it. That reality is not right wing.
That said, the typical lack of feeling for life that the right exhibits repulses one from identifying with it. After all, this system that we admire and want to conserve is the product of what was regarded as 'left'.
We need to be eclectic. To a degree, that means open to diversity, but that term itself has become a 'trigger'. All successful systems expose themselves to improvements, and that requires fresh input from various perspectives. "Outside the box" is a good description. In this case, perhaps, outside the hexagon. Whatever. That doesn't mean any and all, willy-nilly mass infiltration that threatens to break a well functioning order.

I was struck with how nice everyone dressed, even the poor people. Women still mostly dress nice, but more in a sexual way, while we men have totally gone downhill. Maybe we just don't care about rank or status as much anymore.

Also, this was an age without smart phones and TVs. It is interesting to see how much more people interacted on the street and how acceptable it was for people to walk around in the middle of the road. People were a lot more active, and kids actually did things outside, like make little sail boats.

And there were sure a lot of horses. I wonder how well they were treated. Basically this society lived on an animal slave population, but I wonder whether horse populations are as high today as they were. But we have mechanized the killing of billions of animals for food.

Even though we talk about CO2, they had their own problems. I wonder how much dung had to be cleaned up and how much waste their factories were producing.

Horse poop is environmentally friendly. ;)
And besides, as far as I know, there were special people employed to clean the streets from horse poop. :)

    This is scatological, not philosophical.
