I was in the Whiskeytown national recreation/forest area yesterday and it was packed with tourists from all over the country. Having it be one of the only full lakes in Ca is quite a draw as well.

Do you have to wear a China Virus mask 24/7 there? Are shops and stores open there in case we need to buy anything? Or are they closed due to the China Virus? Will my little kids be indoctrinated about CRT or some crazy sex thing if I bring them into California? Will I be attacked in a public place like a restaurant if I say something positive about Trump? Can I get a subsidy to help defray the crazy cost of gas in California during our stay? Does feces flow freely in Redding like it does in San Francisco? Is there Typhus in Redding like there is in Los Angeles? Will it be safe to take a stroll at night, or will we be accosted by homeless people as in the rest of California. Will there be a place to park there or will all open places be taken up by homeless squatters as in the rest of California? Will I be forced to drive an electric car there? Are the forest fires under control enough for us to be safe?

Where to start? No. Mask wearing is not required anywhere except medical places. We were the capital of resistance to mask wearing and mandates. Every thing is wide open here and most were open in defiance of the state since May 2020. Our law enforcement never enforced any closures or mandates. Everything and every place is open. No, you don’t have to worry about CRT or coerced pronouns here. In fact our local public schools led the effort to reopen and end masking. We have lots of home, private, and charter schools here but the public ones are good too. We start our day with the pledge of allegiance here. Nothing will happen here if you say you support Trump in public as 2/3 of the voters here do as well. Gas prices are high here but are among the least expensive in Ca here. Lots of Biden I did that on gas pumps around here. We do have some homeless here but the police keep it under control and those really wanting help get it. We tend to take areas they hang out and redevelop it , so that the new residents /users of a place make them uncomfortable and move on usually to wooded areas outside city limits. There is plentiful parking and our newly revitalized core downtown area is perfectly fine for families and couples to take an evening stroll or attend a restaurant or theater. After the disaster in 2018 forest management became an even bigger priority here even if LA/SF didn’t care. We built defensible firebreaks around the city and use goats to manage in the city green belts of which there are many. We are River city, tree city, trail city and fishing city USA! Are you surprised we exist in California? The coastal urban progressives can’t conceal their contempt for us and it’s mutual yet tourists still travel both directions.

It pretty much is as you say., you would like such a visit. The people in this region are as conservative as Utah or Idaho is. Here’s some more tips of places to go and things to do. https://visitredding.com/ And https://www.shastacascade.com/about-us

The effort to break away and create our own 51st state has not met with success but joining up a bunch of rural Oregon counties and becoming a part of Greater Idaho is in the works. In the meantime we are part of California but live like we are not since we are so far from the major population centers. Burnet Falls was not included in the 22 places above but Is in the links above is an absolute must see. President Theodore Roosevelt’s saw them and called them the 8th wonder of the world at the time.
