45% of Republicans support the storming of the Capitol Building

A snap YouGov poll of 1400 registered voters asked the following question:

A terrifying 45% of Republican voters supported the riot. So much for the 'false flag'. Almost half Trump supporters are OK with this. The fact that 43% were opposed is cold comfort - the authoritarian virus is deep within the voter base.

For the sake of America's future as a democratic Republic that virus needs to be fought & defeated & the committment of Republicans to basic facts & elected democracy revived. If this fails then American democracy will fail with it.

One can expect a rump cult of trump worshippers to survive whatever befalls trump and his grifter family. But they will never be a majority of even the conservatives in the US, like radical leftists will never be a majority of the liberals in the US.

Yes. That is the problem. A mob smashed their way into the Capitol building, assualted LEOs, vandalized the heart of American democracy, threatened elected officials and got 5 people killed and 45% of Republicans were fine with that.

If you don't see the problem you are the problem.

 

They know that this is how Trump and Trumpism will be remembered. They know tha tthey have fanatically defended the indefensible for years and now it has blown up in their faces. They know that Trump has degraded the Presidency for years and now, finally, he has defiled even the Capitol building. So their only reaction is to deflect, deny & repeat more lies - why stop now.

....well, some of them know. The other 45% just don't see a problem with what happened. Perhaps they never will.

 

You can look at basically all major political controversy through the lens of public opinion and find stark partisan/ideological splits like this that make any group out to be deranged like I can do with racial issues right here.

That's not even what the survey item asked. Read the topline. Respondents were asked about a protest, not the violence. We understand them to be synonymous but survey data needs to be precise if we're generalizing the findings onto an entire political faction.

So much hatred here just like in the real world. A poll of 45% is ridiculous. I have not encountered one person that I know that supports what happened at the Capitol. Not a single person! These threads just continue to demonstrate how divided this country truly is. The left slamming the right with false statements. The right slamming the left with false statements. It sickens me.

 

I don't know about any numbers or polls, but there are a group of people in the US who are in trump's cult and they will be a problem.
Like any cult, some are brainwashed with lies and fantasies and will start to fall away in disappointment at seeing trump's clay feet, but some share his crippled view of America so they are fellow travellers.
The US has room for diversity, but no patience for insurrection, so if they behave, they can co-exist in their fringe world.
Many of these people overlap with the anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers and flat earthers anyway, so they are already on the fringe.
The woman who died storming the Capitol had written that she wouldn't mind dying for trump.
I don't think that these people know anything about the US, since they have given their allegiance to a man and not to the rule of law, which is anathema to Americans.

The left has been focusing on Trump and how much they hate him for the past 4 years and now it's ramped up x 1000000 since Wednesday. They're so focused on the hate they have for him, they are forgetting they are about to take control of the presidency, and congress. They better be on their best behavior. They've set the stage over the past year for what to do when you don't like something. When they are facing that opposition, what will they do?

 

Bet on their projection and you never fail.
They've been screaming stolen election with zero evidence, that is a very clear sign that they are not about fair election or the real result.
Which means you can expect them to actually be the ones going for the steal.

If you wanna know what plan they are hatching, just listen to what they accuse democrats of doing.

Pollsters are quick to ask people about this riot but where nowhere to be found during the summer of love.
