$6 or $7 per gallon is a small price to pay to defend democracy....

I never said anyone was starving. In my world we are well fed and clothed. I am sorry you are
suffering. We studied hard in school. We learned things like engineering. We are doing very nicely. I am sorry you are in a hurt.

You brought up "let them eat cake" as some sort of rebuttle on high gas prices and Trump supporters suffering. So you were full of it?

At $52/hr, I think I'm doing pretty good.

WTF? I have no idea why you think it isn't, but I also have no interest in getting involved in a discussion about the internal form of government of Ukraine. Especially not with anybody who didn't get that Trump was trying to overthrow our democratic system on January 6.

But, I can tell you one thing: thinking that we are defending Ukraine just for the sake of Ukraine is really shortsighted. We are defending Ukraine to defend DEMOCRACY against an expansionist dictator who, if successful, will not stop with Ukraine.

The extreme right's lack of foresight is once again evident.

    Who's Biden?

Changing the subject is sign that yet another right-winger was unable to rebut the point that IS the topic of the thread. This is the clearest indication that my point is made.

    Thanks for your help!

Biden (or as I like to call him, Brandon) is the idiot progressives elected to president, who has weakened our nation in almost every way.

I wouldn't expect anyone to address this question head on as it's so glaringly obvious he's been a disaster.

OK, we will give him a consolation prize. Yours is just partisan, not fact.

"So now, most of us can afford it."

Do you even know what inflation means?
    https://grow.acorns.com/inflation-impacts-middle-class-most/

No. Most of us CAN'T afford it.

"56% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck — and 43% really need the third stimulus"

"We can afford a temporary increase in gas prices. And it's well worth it to stop another megalomaniac from taking over democratic regimes."

I guess only we can invade other countries in an attempt to take over their government by installing our own? See Iraq. See Afghanistan for more recent examples. See the regime change we attempted in Syria...

"So sorry to fans of Putin's puppet, but people understand that there is a price to be paid to defend democracy. And it's a good thing that we have to pay it now that most people can afford it."

If Trump were "Putin's puppet" He would have made this move when his puppet were in charge of the United States. The country with the highest military spending budget and the second most nuclear warheads. Because he would get zero pushback from the United States, since his "puppet" was in charge. So logic doesn't work with your theory here. Trump was never "Putin's puppet". He was brash and unpredictable.

Biden is predictable and weak which is EXACTLY why Putin chose now to make his play into Ukraine.

There. I addressed your failed opening statement.

Because it's not. They haven't let all of their citizens vote in elections since the illegal 2014 coup that removed the last real democratically elected President.

I'll gladly pay $6-$7 dollars for gas if it meant protecting our borders. But it seems the left likes wide ass open borders here, and closed borders for a shithole half way around the world that no one knows anything about.

Oh my goodness i just had this discussion with another poster.
How is any able bodied person suffering with min wage being $15. 2 jobs for 6 hours is $180 a day. You guys must live in red states. In which case, you voted for this "suffering".
Nationally there are2 jobs for every applicant, so that may be a laziness issue.

It has not, but even if that were true, people need to learn to pass these inflation costs off to their employer better.
It's a labor market. That means people are in demand are in the best position to demand living wages. Which should cover a Months rent in one weeks check. If not, either get another job, or demand an adequate raise.
Inflation means increased labor costs as well you know. Increased labor costs is a raise.

It is true, and no they really don't. Employers always have to be frugal with spending. Cost of goods will go up but labor? That's a controlled expenditure.

Ok well, I'd say we are done here since you seem incapable of engaging with your ridiculous opening post.

    Thanks for playing!

"The middle class is hit hardest by inflation, according to a new study"

The middle class can afford defending democracy

Addressing it and not giving a single reason why it's wrong is the same as (or maybe worse than) not addressing it. To be precise: why WOULDN'T most of the people in the middle class be able to afford defending democracy? Which was the actual point I made.

You didn't answer that, you fail!

I did address it, and I posted you a link that has numbers to back it's claim that we are struggling in a bad way living paycheck to paycheck. Kind of negates your post based on feels.

Who told you that lie? People most definitely should pass costs off to their employer especially in this market. The costs of goods don't have to go up, vendors undercut each other all the time.

Neither have we. But again, that is besides the point. And your lack of foresight becomes evident if you think that by "defending democracy" I'm talking about defending Ukraine. No! We are defending OUR democracy.

Once Putin is at our border, $6 - $7 might no longer be an option. Try maybe upwards of $100

If you realize that, suddenly $6 or $7 doesn't sound so bad.

Such bullshit. We've got a fake mail ballot president in office right now, so I agree with you on the flaws in our so-called democracy.

Are people living on fixed incomes such as Social Security, disability, or their retirement funds making '$180 a day'?

When 'minimum wage' is $15, and the rent has gone up just under 8% in one year, food and other necessities has gone roughly 8%, utilities have gone up 8-10%, and the price of gas has near doubled, that $15 doesn't go very far.

Because profit margins vary industry to industry. The restaurant industry for example has a very slim profit margin. I know progressives have a hard time with this reality but not every industry/business is Amazon. So expect employers to continue being frugal in this ridiculous environment.

What sort of traveling is one doing on a fixed income? Don't Republicans want to do away with SS? What was the plan had they succeeded?

The min wages used to be $5.50. So $15 now is more then an 8% raise. Notably people arnt limited to one job.

If one cared about others and “defending democracy” by stopping consumption of Russian energy, that person would cut consumption, not pay more for the same quantity.

Those who will be harmed most by this disruption in energy are third world inhabitants. Being willing to pay more for energy does MORE harm to these people because it makes energy needed for necessities like nitrogen fertilizer for sustenance agriculture completely unaffordable for them.

The idea we should pay more for gas so Ukraine can be “free” demonstrates a complete ignorance of global energy markets and energy use. So we should sacrifice the lives of potentially millions of third worlders to starvation and malnutrition while we virtue signal to Ukrainians by paying exorbitant prices to power our over consuming decadent lifestyle? No. If you care about the lives of people in other countries, the correct action would be to CUT your consumption, not price energy out of the reach of those who need it most but use the least. The premise of this thread is based on profound misunderstanding of global energy. Sad.
