Sad. This is a travesty. Seems like officers involved and a cover up. The man wanted to serve this country and its looks like ulimately it was a racial issue.

God willing theyll throw the book at them, prove them guilty, convict and sentence them but as is often the case, the military doesnt press hard enough on themselves. One of the few knocks against the military is the culture of protectionism among soldiers,Marines, airmen etc. Most military members will abhor this tragedy...but some will try and spin it to mitigate the charges. I dont have all the facts, I hope theyre not guilty but even in this early stage of publicity, these guys seem to stink.

Aye to that. Nobody wants to see any ' deals ' whereby 7 of the 8 blame one guy and walk. It's all too common .

I heard an interview withthe family, and I can be sure that they won't be satisfied withthe outcome.

Like you, I expect the military will not deal with it as well as they could - but its not unique to the US military. I know that the Australian military, despite numerous enquiries, doesn't deal effectively with things like this.

there seems to be a culture of both bullying and protectionism ... kind of like a seriously dysfunctional family.

that said, I think the majority of servicemen and women do have good relationships with their colleagues, despite the failings of the organisation.

and that reflects well on them as people.

The thing about the infantry is you establish yourself when you get to a unit and you do not take crap from nobody. And if fights take place, the bullied or the instigator will be re-assigned. Or should have been re-assigned to another platoon.

    Sound like a cover up.
After all, it is a combat zone and everyone has access to ammo. Field justice may have taken place and unfortunatly someone died. Hard to say, but I know bulling could not have been the issue. Field justice gone wrong?
But then again, the infantry may have changed over the years.

    gimlets eh.
