You see the problem is, this thread was supposed to be about nudity, not sex. they are two different animals.
Along the same lines of your post, Gorn Captain Prostitution is legal in Nevada in all counties except Clark and Washoe. Why? Good old Army Air Corps! The wished to build air strips just outside of Las Vegas and Reno. But, because both places had legal Red Light districts, they approached county and state officials, telling them that, if they did away with prostitution, they would pour lots of $$$ into both counties via the air fields. The politicians, of course, complied. So, the mothers of our boys in uniform did not have to worry about them being tempted by the horrible Ladies of the Night. So what? It wasn't that far to Lincoln county with a number of very prosperous brothels. Also, booze and gambling were still there for all to partake of.
As doniston noted, we are getting away from the Subject....but it was Unifier who conflated nudity taboos with "sexual morality". Back to the topic, I think eventually you'll see a shift. All public beaches will see women going topless and police will eventually look the other way (metaphorically speaking, I mean. ). Even broadcast media will "loosen up"...10 years ago, the situation I noted...where Channing Tatum's bare butt was seen would have been a matter of huge outrage. (I'm thinking Dennis Franz and Sharon Lawrence going "bare-assed" in the ABC show "NYPD Blue" ...Lawrence doing the "hands and arms over the bathing suit area" as well). Eventually, they won't "blur out" Olivia Nunn's breasts from "Magic Mike". With "narrow-casting", parents will be able to block anything they don't want the kids to see.....but if not optioned, in 15 years, maybe less, you'll probably see films with full frontal shown un-edited on TNT, Bravo, etc or shows like "Naked and Afraid" or "Dating Naked"....with no "pixelization".
He made a point about "national morality".....I merely pointed out ...it never existed. Not non-hypocritically, I should say. There was no "Golden Age" of American morality, especially sexual morality. It's a myth created by Social Conservatives.
Oh, I don't know, I think it is still here, to to large a degree. i have seem Black beach in California, and watch them MOooning the pasenger trains as the went by, but that's an exception, I would have no objection if everyone went nude (except people like me and those who are a bit hefty)), at my age, I would be disgusting to nearly everyone. (the Hoooookay was not intended to be critical)
No, I got it....merely re-stating my point on bringing it up. Truth is lifting a nudity taboo would probably do MORE for sexual morality.
I agree wih that, I have always thoughtn a short shortss clad girl was much more sexy than a completely nude girl, and some of these dresses which were intended to accent the breasts or cutdowns all the way to the navel are out and out disgusting. I feel the same way about thongs, they don't hide anything, but likely should.
On this I ill have to agree with you. There is no such thing as national morality, unless you're a hive mind like the borg. Sentient though is independent thought, and independent thought has indepenedent conclusions.\ Hence, conflict.
Are you under the assumption that people did not engage is sexual activity, deviancy, or desire 200 yrs. ago? It may be you have a somewhat limited understanding of History....or simply wish to ignore it.
I am under the assumption that when it mattered most the right people were disciplined enough to do what had to be done. George Washington comes to mind. Want to argue that?
"Long before the modern sex columnist, there was Benjamin Franklin. In a column from 1745 titled “Advice on the Choice of a Mistress,” Franklin advised bachelors to seek out older women: They “hazard no children,” he wrote, and “are so grateful” for a young man’s attention. “Regarding only what is below the girdle,” he added, “it is impossible…to know an old from a young one.” Franklin wasn’t the only Founding Father whose libido was a frequent topic of conversation. Thomas Jefferson’s political opponents published inflammatory cartoons “outing” his relationship with his slave, Sally Hemings. Alexander Hamilton publicly apologized for an extramarital affair, two centuries before Bill Clinton. And George Washington was almost certainly subjected to rumors that he engaged in gay sex. As a Freemason, the historian Thomas Foster writes in his new book, Sex and the Founding Fathers: The American Quest for a Relatable Past, newspapers commonly attacked Freemasons by circulating stories that they were “engaging in anal penetration with wooden spikes used in ship building.” http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...-of-the-founding-fathers-reveal-about-us.html
Seems pretty totalitarian for us not to be able to walk around freely as nature intended. If you don't want your kids to see how the real world works, keep them indoors with your 27 cats.
When...EXACTLY....was that? What decade of what century? - - - Updated - - - The social conservative's argument falls apart....you really think a kid hasn't seen the opposite sex parent naked once or more?
