Does Liberalism have an exclusive claim to righteousness so that competing views can be discriminated against and discarded as unmeritorious?

If liberals had a Bible, it would go something like this.

    1. Freedom for all, except when it comes to free trade.

    2. Thou shalt not pollute for it is an abomination. Neither shalt thou recycle nor drive an SUV, for they shall be punished.

    3. Ask what your country can do for you, not what you can do in your own country.

    4. 1%'ers will be tossed into the lake of fire. It is the goal of government to turn the 1%'ers into the 0.000001%'ers who run the government. Such salvation can only come through your elected official. Praise be to him......or her.

    5. Free entitlements for everyone are righteous, however, paying for it is a sin because if we did, we would have no entitlements.

Same question could be asked about conservatism. Not only their exclusive claim to righteousness, but their exclusive claim to patriotism. They love to play the "you're unAmerican and we're the only patriots" card.

No, because then it wouldn't be liberalism.

Competing views are tested - and usually found wanting. If they're found wanting, then they can be discarded as unmeritorious. Liberals, you see, believe in fairness and due process.

The perception from conservatives is that liberals disdain the limited government that was set up by the Founding Fathers. For you see, they view limited government as being the key to freedom as did the Founding Fathers.

Oh look, another thread where Republicans generalize all liberals and tell us what we believe.

The herd is awfully active lately.

Do you believe in "limited government"? If so, what is your view of what it should be?

Neither American liberals or American conservatives based on actions have a valid claim to righteousness and patriotism as you both redefine it each election.

But how does a righteous man work in a corrupt system?

If memory serves, mankind would rather nail a righteous man to a cross than vote for him.

Even Socrates who lived long before Christ walked the earth said something to this effect. He said that if there ever were a righteous man, he would be killed, that is, right before they murdered Socrates.

    Go figure.

You are correct. I sometimes think that I should pretend that the government and other people don't exist.

This doesn't really address the fact that republicans do the exact thing the OP claims of liberals. Also, lol @ conservatives wanting limited government. Right, that's why we have a gigantic, bloated military, overlapping government branches (thanks to the republican pushed Homeland Security Agency), the drug war (which requires a lot of government and generally just makes things worse), etc. So don't give me this "limited government" BS.

I do, actually. Me personally, I support the idea of strong state governments that do most of what the federal government does now (social welfare, for example), with a strong but flexible federal government that doesn't do much of anything outside of managing the states and protecting our borders and rights.

No, and any liberal willing to say so is an idiot.

    *scans through thread*

Oh good, none of those willing to say so have posted yet. They're idiots. I mean, what does liberalism even mean to you, OP? How would you define it?

I never implied that conservatives ran things. Your assumption is that if you are a Republican you are a conservative. As you point out, this assumption is absurd so why do you pretend it is the truth?

It should be limited to helping people, and never against their will.

I never implied that you implied that. This doesn't change the fact that conservatives/republicans take the same stance as claimed about liberals. It doesn't change the fact that people calling themselves republicans or conservatives support huge, invasive government.

    Big Government is their Religion......

.......it takes 100% Faith to believe things like "Unemployemnt Checks create Jobs"......or "Government Spending creates wealth".....

...while Liberals are quick to demean religion......they are actually the most Relgous......and an all controlling all powerful Nanny statist government is their God.

When's the last time a republican president created smaller government instead of larger?

No, it doesn't. It's a theory (and a practice) based on math. If people receive unemployment checks, they have money to spend that they wouldn't otherwise have. They spend it in stores, those stores now have money, that money can be used to expand the business and employ someone.

That's not faith. That's a logical prediction. There is a difference.
