I plan to wing it a tad so bear with me.

I was watching on CSPAN a book review on Steve Forbes book where he spent 3 hours discussing his ideas.

Steve came up with a brilliant observation.

Around the 6 minute mark, give or take, he startled me with the truth.

No cheap motel in the USA would force customers to share the same room separated by a sheet.

Yet our hospitals do that to strangers.

I recall surgery and my stay in the local hospital known as Washington Hospital.

I got crammed in at a super cost, with first some guy who also had a heart bypass the day I did. He was much younger and departed the hospital the day ahead of me. He was replaced with some old guy (at 77 that means me too) yet this guy was a royal pain in the behind. He was annoying me and the hospital staff. I was so happy to leave when I did.

But why do hospitals put you into the same room with other patients?

At the prices they charge, and this is true in my case, the best local hotels charge much less and you have a superior room.

This is called our health care system??

It is more efficient, economical, and as annoying as it is, at least there is someone there who may be able to call the nurse if you code and are not on a monitor. That said, my dad used to be treated at a hospital in which most of the rooms were singles except in specialty wards. The rooms were claustrophobic they were so small. barely enough room to gt a chair or gurney beside the bed. The bathroom doors opened out and hit the foot of the bed and blocked half the room when opened.
