    You are right. I admit I forgot to specify theist religions instead of religion in general. I thought about that later on in the day but it was too late to edit my post.

    It's like when children are told that if they misbehave the "boogie man" will get them. Doesn't work for a healthy adult mind but I guess you might have a point regarding the sociopaths and the credulous. lol...

    If the immediate and clearly forseeable punishment given by man doesn't deter an individual then not sure how you think the unforseeable will persuade. If the guy had a conscience he wouldn't have committed crime therefore your thread is a contradiction of tenses.

    Yea, but man won't find you out while the boogie man always knows what you've done and will get you for sure.

    I should think being caught and punished by civil authorities would be a deterrent..

    If you really think scaring sociopaths with the threat of hell will instill caring into their souls... well then, best of luck to you. Personally I doubt a true sociopath could care less. Perhaps a sociopath who is a Christian could be kept in line with the threat of hell... but honestly, how many sociopaths go to Church... other than Dennis Rader and Robert Lee Yates.
