Yes, it's WAAAAAAY too early to tell how the 2020 race will go, but this poll reveals a lot about the public's rejection of "progressive" policies and candidates. Not only have the myths of "progressive" infallibility and moral and intellectual superiority gone up in flames, so has the myth of Fauxcahontas Warren's invincibility.

I have no idea who Generic Democratic Challenger is and where he/she/it stands on the issues, but maybe the Democrats should run Generic instead of their presumptive nominee, who is known to us.

Given the rejection of Obama's policies and Fauxcahontas' weakness, one has to wonder if Democrats will heed the "progressive" calls to push the party further out towards the lunatic Leftist fringe or will they reverse course and steam towards the Center? Right now, it appears to be the former...

Warren is the poster child of white privilege, it helped her so much she had to pretend to be an Indian to get ahead. No way she is a serious contender outside the East Coast. Her credibility on the national stage is worse than Hillary's was, and we see where that ended. Trump's only completion in 2020 is himself and the number of illegal aliens he's deported. So long as the economy isn't in the tank and illegal aliens are getting deported visibly, he'll be re-elected...

Heck 2020 is a secondary concern for the Squaw at this point. 2018 isn't looking like a lock for her re-election bid, and it reinforces your point about the publics rejection.

In all seriousness, the Democrats need to stop trying to counteract this anti-intellectual populism with more cockamamie progressivism and instead run a moderate. The Republican Party will be split by 2020, with the core made up of party loyalists who want to hold onto power even if it means continuing to ride in the back of the incompetent Trump Train. I imagine a good chunk of disaffected Republicans will sever their party affiliation in disgust at what a horrible job their former party has done governing, and if the Democrats use some common sense they will pick up their votes - maybe even as early as the 2018 midterms. Given the current state of affairs in DC, we ought to be a full-on plutocracy by 2018's state-of-the-union address.

It doesn't matter who the Left runs.

The campaign wont be Trump vs X, it will be Right vs Left ...even more so than it has been in the past.
