Many not close to the issue might wonder why the ANC lost only 3% of the vote in the recent elections compared to 2010. Why was the obviously demonstrated corruption, favouritism especially to two dozen elite ANC families, the channelling of public funds away from the needy, and the non-delivery on election promises so easily accepted?

Toynbee seems to be correct (was it him?): "The people get the government they deserve."

But the question "WHY" lingers on. Here is an African explanation from ANC MP Ben Turok:

""The ANC is your family, it is neighbour, your mother, your father. Zuma can do various things and Mbeki can do various things, it is not that important. The people in the townships love the ANC and there is no cross about that."

There you have it. The African "big man" syndrome. Tat is the answer to "Why".

So how long before the Zimbabwification?

The African National Congress (ANC) is to post-aparteid South Africa as the Democratic Party is to the United States.
