Activists wanted NASA to rename their new telescope for social justice reasons. NASA passed

So far NASA has resisted the 'woke' Left. But how long can they hold out? How does this square with the Left's championing of reason, logic and science:

 

the name of the telescope has nothing to do with science, and it seems that some scientists have a problem with webb. call it "space telescope #2 " as long as it observes the universe.

for people who want to be memorialized by having things named for them the message is clear, and directly from matthew 7:12. if that is "woke" to you, and rhat is to you as bad thing, i hope there is never a "space time" telescope.

 

Did Webb want it named after him?

And just because some "woke" idiots got offended doesn't mean that you have to change the name. Believe it or not, it is simply impossible to please everyone all of the time.

 

Guess those activists ought to provide some evidence if they want to be taken seriously.

I do think there are some SJW causes that have merit, but I also believe that too often they are just vehicles for people to feel a part of something or to feel like they have power.

 

I believe some idiots who are offended at everything just need to shut the hell up, how about them apples?

 

Maybe NASA can paint a rainbow on the lens, and christen the booster by breaking a bottle of "Rock Hard" on the side before liftoff....

To be fair, what they said about Webb was correct. He WAS racist. But since he also did a hell of a lot of good also I see no reason to cancel him.

Our Founders were, by our standards, racist as hell. But I'm still not going to discount all the good that they did. That is the problem with SJW's, they ONLY look at the bad. And when asked about the good that a person has done they'll say that no amount of good will make up for the bad they did....which reminds me of how the Inquisition and the Church acted back in the day. They're peas in a pod when compared.

 

I wonder how this astronomer feels about having tons of streets and schools named after Martin Luther King, a known homophobe and woman abuser? I mean, he is a social justice warrior, isn't he?

The SJWs seem to focus on certain things while totally ignoring others. They ignore the racism of LBJ, Bill and Hillary Clinton along with their abuse of women. They ignore the use of using racist black panthers to provide security to certain democrat politicians. They ignore the racism of Sharpton, Jackson and many others. They ignored the racism of Biden and the persecution of blacks by Harris. But in the basements of your average outraged social justice warrior, they were able to dig up a song Kate Smith sang in the 40s and got her completely cancelled.
