Giving someone preferential treatment based on their race and gender and denying someone else that same preferential treatment based on their race and gender is racism and sexism.

Nice, so what is it called when someone is given preferential treatment based on their military status and disability and denying someone else based on their non-veteran status and do not have a disability?

Isn't legacy admissions affirmative action for rich kids?

Are you implying that George W. Bush did not get into Yale based on his transcripts and SAT scores???

That's funny. Some people are cool with elitism and those same people may be racists and sexists

People should get preferential treatment based on merit. If you promote someone into a position that they're incompetent at because they're disabled not only are you stealing that job from someone who's competent they're making the disabled person a laughing stock because they can't do the job and everyone will know it's because they're A diversity higher.

Typically no. Such people tends to make large donations. It would only be affirmative action if that form of back scratching didn't happen.

I guess David Hogg is racist and sexist he didn't get another test scores or because his mom and dad donated a lot of money.

Can anyone apply for affirmative action if they really, really believe they deserve it? I'm thinking in special cases like Elizabeth Warren. She played the game long enough to get herself elected US Senator from Massachusetts.

Well, we all emerged from Africa 200,000 or so years ago so we all could check the black box.

Uh, that's why the bar is lowered for their admission because they are rich and their family has some emotional attachment to the institution and more likely to donate.

Apparently that makes sense to you.

No it's just because they donate.

Hogg got affirmative action because he's a puppet.

You support that though don't you.

Is why they lowered the bar. Affirmative is supportive and action is to achieve an aim. It supports rich kids getting in to get donations.
Apparently that makes sense to you.

Harvard used race as a metric, and they tracked it throughout the admissions process. If a rich, white, legacy kid gets accepted it took away a seat from another white kid. And, those donations pay for the scholarships that help lower-income students they accepted, but are unable to afford the costs of Harvard's education.

I identify as a conservative so I'm gonna call you a racist and a child molester and do my best to take away your civil rights.

I find it... interesting, I suppose would be the word, that I've gone over 50 years and never once did I hear a single peep about legacy, veteran, or disabled preferences before the racist AA got properly struck down for violating the 14A, and now that has happened, it seems to be the only thing the left wants to discuss. I'll give y'all credit, you have your talking points memo distributions up to date and you jump on that bandwagon the minute you get your marching orders from on high. But also quite curious. Never seen such a hissy fit, almost like someone took away your favorite toy or something, eh?

I love it! I want the left to go full court press against legacy admissions. It would cause a lefty civil war since so many of them benefited from it. But if, after the ashes have cleared, it leaves us with a system that rewards merit just a little bit more we'll all be the better for it.

Another righty conspiracy theory? No hissy fit, just pointing out exclusive schools use variously weighted metrics to decide admission. It could be the applicant is a star basketball player, a legacy, veteran, got 1800 on SATs, high school grades, comes from an underrepresented minority, volunteer history, wrote a glowing essay, interviews well….. The only problem racists see is race. I don’t think any of those things are a problem.

    an 1800 would be a hell of a score-like a 38 on the ACT

You should research the case before declaring something a "conspiracy theory." It would make your posts sound more intelligent. Harvard's attorneys clearly stated under oath that they track race throughout the process and before finalizing their admissions they look at the makeup of the tentative accepted applicants (which are weighted by race among other factors), and then purge people to help reach metrics they desire. For race, the goal is to not decrease the minority numbers each year. Therefore, white legacies take up white admission spots. The same is true for athletic admissions. A Black athlete effectively takes a Black admission spot.

in most of the seventies and eighties, the top scoring black at Yale Law had scores far lower than well over 1000 white men who were turned down

Thanks for questioning my intelligence, but that was a reference to Mr. Dentalfloss' comment about we all have the same talking points, also thanks for the info.

her teaching position at Harvard is best explained with her faux native American bullshit. she went to a minor league law school-Harvard normally doesn't hire anyone for its law school who didn't go to Yale, Harvard, Chicago or Stanford though an occasional Columbia Michigan Duke or Cornell grad might sneak in
