I finally can agree with Obama, although I didn't like the racial slant he put on it, reform of the Criminal Justice system. It costs billions of dollars to put people in jail and prisons for non-violent crimes. Those convicted of non-violent drug related crimes would benefit more and cost taxpayers less if we put them in rehab programs. And I agree with him that those that served their time or completed probation and the courts orders successfully regardless if a felony should be able to vote. And, we need to go one step further. Those that complete the orders of the court, jail/prison time or deferred adjudication regardless if the charge was considered a felony(too many non-violent crimes leave it up to the prosecutor to charge a felony or like misdemeanor and they always choose to charge the felony)should be able to have their record expunged and keep the information concealed for employment purposes. Since more and more young adults are being arrested and charged with felonies where in the 60's-early 80's they would not have been, we need to reform the law and allow them to gain employment and enter or finish college. While my generation was treated differently by police, meaning they took us home to our parents, this is not how it works anymore. They end up with records for the simplest of things. Like arrested for fishing on private or city property or jumping over the fence to swim in their neighborhood swimming pool. Or riding their bike on a sidewalk. Or leaving a well lite mall without their headlights on(something most adults have done and weren't ticketed). The mentality of our City law enforcement has gone out of control.

It isn't just minorities being targeted but it is young adults. There should be amnesty for all prison inmates incarcerated for non-violent drug and alcohol related crimes. If we are going to give all illegals amnesty, how about we give our own citizens amnesty and the help they need.

I dunno. There are many non-violent crimes that deserve extended prison times. A lot of white-collar non-violent crimes. Violence isn't the worst thing in the world.

Violence is the absolute worst thing in the world. A banker can break your retirement account, but a pedophile, a rapist, a murderer, an abuser can kill you, or in the least main you mind and, or body.

Well, see, I believe that if a banker leaves you penniless, your sudden poverty can beget violence.

I agree with Obama on this, however the only reason why Obama even cares is because he wants to free violent black criminals...

The problem with the criminal justice system is that too many people are locked up for petty crimes and non-violent crimes - not only that but innocent people are bullied and coerced into taking plea deals because DA's threaten people with max penalties if they don't take the plea... Would you rather spend 3 months in jail and move on or risk a 3 year prison sentence at trial? and that is another thing - the state doesn't care if you're innocent - they want to win and they will gladly put away innocent people...

Our criminal judicial system is corrupt..

The notion that just because someone is innocent so they have nothing to worry about is laughable...

No there aren't... Violent criminals are a threat to society and ironically violent criminals are treated the same as non violent criminals. They throw the book at benevolent drug dealers and those that allegedly commit other petty non-violent offenses, then turn around and take it easy on violent offenders that are clearly off their rocker...

And what percentage of crime do you believe is actually "white collar banker crime"? ZERO% at the state level.

You do realize all that "white collar banker crime" is a federal issue and NOT a state issue...

People who steal crap from stores shouldn't be in jail, people who get caught with small amounts of drugs shouldn't be in jail, people who don't pay parking tickets shouldn't be in jail.

Also, white collar criminals that steal millions from people will always get a lite sentence - they hire the best lawyers and have money to post for bond.

There is nothing anyone can do about that.

However to attempt to claim a white collar criminal is worse than a violent criminal is asinine...

Absolutely agree. White collar criminals have always been given a free pass. It's time they get their just dues.

The United States is the most violent modern democracy on the planet. The country imprisons more of its citizens that anywhere else in the world in inhumane conditions. The country is sick.

isn't like the most violent part of an inner city related to drugs? Sorry dude you lost me, just like the pres does all the time. If you think drugs is a non violent offense, you're silly.
