AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones testified Wednesday that he now understands it was irresponsible of him to declare the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre a hoax and that he now believes it was “100% real."

Speaking a day after the parents of a 6-year-old boy who was killed in the 2012 attack testified about the suffering, death threats and harassment they've endured because of what Jones has trumpeted on his media platforms, the Infowars host told a Texas courtroom that he definitely thinks the attack happened.

This dude needs to go to prison for what he did to the families of Sandy Hook.

I wish this would be a cautionary tale for those who are continuing to spread the Big Lie that the election was stolen. But it won’t.

Heslin and Lewis both said they fear for their lives and have been confronted by strangers at home and on the street. Heslin said his home and car have been shot at. The jury heard a death threat sent via telephone message to another Sandy Hook family.

“I can’t even describe the last nine and a half years, the living hell that I and others have had to endure because of the recklessness and negligence of Alex Jones,” Heslin said.

    ...

Some of the hell he put the parents of Sandy Hook through, from the OP link ^^^^^^

Fortunately for Jones, this is a civil trial. That said, what he did I believe is criminal. He purposely agitated people to attack the victims families.

You can go to jail for giving false testimony during a civil trial though.

When it does this you should absolutely go to prison.

This country is in the shape it is in because of people like this man. I am sure Limbaugh is looking up from hell proud of what he has led.

Rush is in hell in front of a microphone telling everyone how fortunate they are to be there instead of with all those communist loving pacifists taking orders from Jesus. (pronounced with fake Mexican accent.)

The devil isn't going to waste Rush's talent.

I'm not up to speed on the guy. Did he do something to any of the parents? I thought he was off the air so why does he even matter but again; I've not followed if he attacked anyone or anything........???

    See 1st amendment.

If what he said was defamatory (seems to be) then there are civil remedies for that IE monetary damages.

You don't go to prison for speech in a free country.

He claimed the whole thing was 100% fake including the parents. That they were crisis actors etc.

    Nope.

REAL men don't call the cops because their wife <whatever the hell he was complaining about> and they certainly do NOT add to other people's pain by being obnoxious dumbasses in public.

One can most certainly go to jail for inciting people to commit felonies. One can easily state Jones did such with his speech.

There are limits on the first amendment
Like all amendments — there are limitations

    Incitement is one

No one said prison for speech.

But he did incite hate, hate that led to Sandy Hook families getting death threats, cars and houses getting shot at.

So he did incite illegal actions by others.

But that is likely why there are no criminal charges brought.

I just said, for what he put those Sandy Hook families through, he SHOULD go to jail.

Alex is a grade A ****head, and I hope he loses his lawsuits. However, he can still say things and not go to jail for it, same as any of us.

With rights comes responsibilities. He has to take responsibility for his abuse of the right to free speech. At least in my view.

I'm not sure jail is appropriate, but I don't know the nuances of the law well enough to know whether he crossed the line between speech and something illegal.

But I hope those families take him for every penny he has. He is a disgusting despicable individual, and any losses he incurs will still be less than he deserves.

Your post disagrees with you, and if it's any consolation, you're not alone....

We don't have hate speech laws in this country, either.

I don't know if that kook incited anything, and it would appear he wasn't charged with a crime because he didn't commit a crime.

As for anyone who has threatened or attacked anyone, they clearly committed a crime and should face the consequences...

His actions do not rise to the very narrow standard for incitement.
IF you think they do, quote the statute, and fit the facts to the elements.

He also once called the opposition 'literal pot bellied vampire goblins eating babies alive and stealing their body parts'. That's a bit role that any reasonable person would recognize.

You've claimed his actions rise to the level of meeting a criminal statute.

Quote the statute and fit the facts to the elements.
