Another Democrat in the US Congress is sounding alarms about the Amazon-Whole Foods deal As the Trump administration prepares to review the merger, the top Democrat on the House's leading competition committee is pushing for a hearing, arguing that Amazon's newest gambit in the grocery business — and its continued attempts to supercharge its same-day delivery services — could present new threats to its competitors. Even the mid- to super-sized stores will feel the impact of Amazon's unbeatable prices and delivery magic. In this day and age where time is of the essence, Amazon is the leader. They lease their own fleet of airplanes to ship their goods to the customers! Jeff Bezos, owner and CEO of Amazon.com A little unknown tidbit: Amazon isn’t Bezos’s only endeavor. He bought The Washington Post for $250 million in 2013! And his space-exploration company, Blue Origin, became one of the first commercial companies to launch a re-usable rocket!! Does anyone seriously believe Congress will stop this man from being successful? Not me! Bezos is one of the world economy's most innovative shaker and mover. He is, by the way, also the second richest man in the world. http://www.vanityfair.com/people/jeff-bezos
He is on his best way of becoming just that. For instance, last year Amazon sold six times as much online as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Nordstrom, Home Depot, Macy’s, Kohl’s, and Costco did combined. Amazon also generated 30 percent of all U.S. retail sales growth, online or offline. It dominates not only in the retail sector, it also lends credit, publishes books, designs clothing, and manufactures hardware. Three years ago, it bought Twitch.com, a central player in the $1-billion business of e-sports. On top of all this, it operates Amazon Web Services, a $12-billion business that rents servers, bandwidth, and computing power to other companies. Slack, Netflix, Dropbox, Tumblr, Pinterest, and the federal government all use Amazon Web Services. It is probably borderline monopolistic. and that's good if we can get rid of or make obsolete 70% of all the local store retail, why not. this is real progress it seems to me.
Aahemm... I have mixed feelings about that. Retail stores with their window displays and friendly staff have been a part of our lives for so long. To many of us going shopping is like a pleasant social outing... something nice to do, to interact and chat with people. I live in a small town; take 70% of the stores away and all you have left are the Hock shop and the Antic Dealer!!
so?? if some people feel like you some retail stores will remain. That's the beauty of Republican freedom. For me I love to shop on Amazon when the urge strikes. its so much quicker and you can shop so much more wisely, and you can save money..
Yes, to each his own, but I can't see what the Republican Freedom has to do with retail stores being able to survive despite a dwindling customer base. If they don't sell enough, they go under.
well he was saying he had mixed feelings about free market shutting down so much retail. I said what gets shut down is what a free people want to get shut down based on where they shop.
yes capitalism is democratic. you freely vote with your dollars. Liberals oppose this freedom and want liberal elites in govt to decide if retail comes or goes
